In any event. Hillary would destroy Giuliani. Just as she would have stomped him like a stinkbug had he not pulled out of the Senate race due to ethical issues and prostate cancer.

I wholeheartedly disagree about the NY Senate race in 2000. Rudy would have mopped the floor with Hillary. He would have eaten into her base in the city and cleaned her clock upstate.

Lazio ran about the worst campaign I've ever seen and still kept it relatively close until the end.

Rudy was losing in the polls, and falling due to the Donna Hanover/Judi Nathan issue. Being that I was living in the city at the time, I can tell you that Rudy's approval ratings were on a steady decline following his defeat of Ruth Messinger in 1997, largely due to his own incompetance.

Lazio got the sidecurl mafia/conservative Democrat vote in NYC anyway, outpolling Bush among these constituency. Upstate has bled population like a hemophiliac, and is not a significant factor in elections anymore.
