Giuliani warns of 'new 9/11' if Dems win
The Politico ^ | 4/24/2007 | Roger Simon

Posted on 04/24/2007 6:22:30 PM PDT by jimbo123

MANCHESTER, N.H. - - Rudy Giuliani said if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.

But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.

“If any Republican is elected president - - and I think obviously I would be the best at this - - we will remain on offense and will anticipate what (the terrorists) will do and try to stop them before they do it,” Giuliani said.

The former New York City mayor, currently leading in all national polls for the Republican nomination for president, said Tuesday night that America would ultimately defeat terrorism no matter which party gains the White House.

“But the question is how long will it take and how many casualties will we have?” Giuliani said. “If we are on defense (with a Democratic president,) we will have more losses and it will go on longer.”

“I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense,” Giuliani continued. “We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation and we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense.”

He added: “The Democrats do not understand the full nature and scope of the terrorist war against us.”

After his speech to the Rockingham County Lincoln Day Dinner, I asked him about his statements and Giuliani said flatly: "America will safer with a Republican president."

Giuliani, whose past positions on abortion, gun control and gay rights have made him anathema to some in his party, believes his tough stance on national defense and his post-Sept. 11 reputation as a fighter of terrorism will be his trump card with doubting Republicans.

“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us!” Giuliani said. “Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!”

Giuliani said terrorists “hate us and not because of anything bad we have done; it has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.”

Giuliani continued: “The freedoms we have are in conflict with the perverted, maniacal interpretation of their religion.” He said Americans would fight for “freedom for women, the freedom of elections, freedom of religion, and the freedom of our economy.”

Addressing the terrorists directly, Giuliani said: “We are not giving that up and you are not going to take it from us!”

The crowd thundered its approval.

Giuliani also said that America had been naïve about terrorism in the past and had missed obvious signals.

“They were at war with us before we realized it, going back to 90s with all the Americans killed by the PLO and Hezbollah and Hamas,” he said. “They came here and killed us in 1993 (with the first attack on New York’s World Trade Center killing six people) and we didn’t get it. We didn’t get it that this was a war. Then Sept. 11, 2001 happened and we got it.”

Man, thanks for the laughs.

I really do appreciate it. If you want to live in a police state, because of your fear of these 6th century barbarians, then be my guest.

Here’s another news flash fer ya; if rooty-toot-toot’s anti gun views have any impact, and should be become (God forbid) POTUS, then how will you defend yourself from what you soooooo obviously fear?

You can live in fear. I won’t.

I guess you like to just make up things that I didn't even say. You are indeed much like a liberal who can't stick to the subject. If you want to go on the defensive fine, that's what we did in the 1990s.

Have fun.

Unfortunately, no matter who is elected we will, in all probability, have another 9/11.

Our enemies always test a new president.

Keep in mind how you would want the next occupant of the White House to respond to the test when you vote.

You do not have to convince me of the virtues of Teddy I am a huge admirer but he is NOT a FReeper favorite. And there were many economic issues and problems he did not take a hands off approach to not to mention conservationism.

Bush is not Wilsonian at all. His rhetoric merely covers the fact that his policy is to kick enemy ass. Nor was the policy from Perle or Wolfie.

None of this means that there are not times when a Crusader is just what is needed.

Republicans were SCARED to use this tactic, (even though it’s true) and they lost.

Ah, You and I must have been watching different elections because the whole stupidassed theme to the republicans reelection camaign was:

VOTE FOR US, WE'RE NOT THEM.

The tactic was useless, as the results indicated.

HAHA. What Desert Storm, Kosovo, Haiti, Somalia... any of those ring a bell? I believe those were the ‘90’s.

I was in the Army then. Where were you?

Buh bye.

I was watching the WTC be blown up for the first time and watching one US embassy after the other being blown up.

Have a nice day. And don’t forget to vote for Hillary, your Commander in Chief.

The first thing a liberal would do is vote for a gun-grabbing abortionist.

No, you have the nice day. I won’t vote for gun-grabbers.

Call me a flaming , screeching lib, along with about 90% of the rest of FR. It’s your right. Use it.

How does Giuliani, the gun grabber, live with Giuliani the terrorist fighter. Another big gov’t apologist.

I want you to be wrong also but with political correctness the way it is I’m afraid you’re right. Our society is too open and too soft.

Amusing isn’t it? They push for a leftist candidate, then run around calling everyone else liberals.

Kind of like Rudy handled all that screw-ups on 9/11 well, but it would have been better if he had put a plan in place in advance of 9/11 so he wouldn’t have had to handle the screw-ups. For example, he was fast to set up a temporary command center, which was good because the lack of a command center hindered the response. However, a better leader, a person who really understood the war on terror after his city had been attacked already, would not have put his command center at ground zero.

Exactly. Giuliani seems to have real talent at taking control of a situation after a disaster occurs -- he's demonstrated it again and again. What he has not done well at is look at the big picture and fight strategically. He's a micro-guy, which is consistent with crimefighting. He's not a macro-guy, which is what we need for long-term war fighting.

Giuliani could be great as FEMA head, so long as the president ensured that he didn't go in and grab everyone's guns in a crisis, and so long as his areas of authority were very clearly defined and someone was keeping a close eye on him.

I haven’t read anything since I went to bed last night, nor do I plan to.

But I will say, that I think its noticeable that RUSH has played 4 sound clips from Rudy’s speech the past 2 days in a row touting it as calling the dems out... while the SELFISH people around here that pounced on this article to reticule Rudy sound EXACTLY like what CNN, CBS and the NYT have since said about the speech.

I think some of you need to start paying attention the company you keep (or forgivingly... the company you have in common)

Think about it...
