Giuliani warns of 'new 9/11' if Dems win
The Politico ^ | 4/24/2007 | Roger Simon

Posted on 04/24/2007 6:22:30 PM PDT by jimbo123

MANCHESTER, N.H. - - Rudy Giuliani said if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.

But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.

“If any Republican is elected president - - and I think obviously I would be the best at this - - we will remain on offense and will anticipate what (the terrorists) will do and try to stop them before they do it,” Giuliani said.

The former New York City mayor, currently leading in all national polls for the Republican nomination for president, said Tuesday night that America would ultimately defeat terrorism no matter which party gains the White House.

“But the question is how long will it take and how many casualties will we have?” Giuliani said. “If we are on defense (with a Democratic president,) we will have more losses and it will go on longer.”

“I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense,” Giuliani continued. “We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation and we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense.”

He added: “The Democrats do not understand the full nature and scope of the terrorist war against us.”

After his speech to the Rockingham County Lincoln Day Dinner, I asked him about his statements and Giuliani said flatly: "America will safer with a Republican president."

Giuliani, whose past positions on abortion, gun control and gay rights have made him anathema to some in his party, believes his tough stance on national defense and his post-Sept. 11 reputation as a fighter of terrorism will be his trump card with doubting Republicans.

“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us!” Giuliani said. “Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!”

Giuliani said terrorists “hate us and not because of anything bad we have done; it has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.”

Giuliani continued: “The freedoms we have are in conflict with the perverted, maniacal interpretation of their religion.” He said Americans would fight for “freedom for women, the freedom of elections, freedom of religion, and the freedom of our economy.”

Addressing the terrorists directly, Giuliani said: “We are not giving that up and you are not going to take it from us!”

The crowd thundered its approval.

Giuliani also said that America had been naïve about terrorism in the past and had missed obvious signals.

“They were at war with us before we realized it, going back to 90s with all the Americans killed by the PLO and Hezbollah and Hamas,” he said. “They came here and killed us in 1993 (with the first attack on New York’s World Trade Center killing six people) and we didn’t get it. We didn’t get it that this was a war. Then Sept. 11, 2001 happened and we got it.”

First term was a success, second term was mediocre at best. His low popularity during the second term was well deserved due to poor management and a lack of focus.

Bloomberg and Daley are better managers, although I still would like to tell Mayor Mike (to his face) that when my mother dies, only then can he have the job.

You are certainly right about Mayor Mike...he has taken the nanny state to new levels of nannydom.

The so called “congestion pricing” idea of his to charge motorists to drive into the heart of the city is just another regressive tax on hard working people.

This global warming scare is just another excuse for government to pick our pockets.

Funny that you would bring up Theodore Roosevelt. He is pretty routinely attacked here for being a Progressive and Trust Buster. The Politically Correct Police may be calling soon for that apostasy. And Kissinger is even MORE hated. Neither man is any further Right than Rudy.

“Purists? Hardly. The overwhelming support for Fred Thompson on FR shows we are pragmatic.”

The overwhelming support for someone who ISN’T CURRENTLY RUNNING shows nothing except how out of touch with reality you guys are.

The fact you are pushing a flaming liberal for the GOP nomination shows how clueless you are.

You're the one who started the flaming. Don't whine like a DUmmy when you are responded to in kind.

Look, I can play the scorched earth game too like the rest of you SELFISH purists.

"Selfish" is a term liberals use to describe conservative individualism.

Our governor is an even bigger RINO. Perry at least pretends to be conservative, Crist doesn’t even try.

Terrorists represent a legitimate threat to this country, but nothing more than a bad month of car accidents

Pretty much a "nuisance" more than anything. Actually I disagreed with John Kerry when he said that and I disagree with it now.

I dont know why you write me such an anti-Rudy bio. I have not yet made a decision on the republican candidate I would support. Why dont you sell whoever it is you support (that's actually in the race) and let others decide rather than knock the others down so that your man (whoever that is) is the only one standing?

Who is that man?

Actually, if you look at TR's record, he took more of a hands off approach towards business than either his predecessor (McKinley) or his successor (Taft, who actually did go after "trusts" and anyone who he thought were trusts). TR's foreign policy was one of intervention when our interests were at stake, and using open diplomacy when necessary with our enemies/rivals. I would say that this approach (to say nothing of Kissinger's), is ALOT more to the right and AMERICAN than Rutard and Bush's neoWilsonianism by way of Perle, Wolfowitz, etc.

Of course, the ex-Lyndon Johnson/Scoop Jackson staffers have redifined "right wing" foreign policy as being a unilateral "crusade for democracy" in the vain of Woodrow Wilson and Lyndon Johnson. They only differ from their friends in the Dem Party in their decision to spread the disease of democracy unilaterally through Pax Americana, rather than through the UN.

Reagan didn't start winning until he brought on the Realists (George Schultz) and ditched the crusaders (Elliot Abrams, et al.). Rudy, is a crusader through and through.

Disagree. It is a means to control the morons who move to NYC from California, Ohio, etc., who feel the need to take their cars EVERYWHERE. Where I do find fault with Bloomberg is on his decision to tax delivery trucks as well.

When did radical Islam become a scare tactic? You sound like a liberal to me. I guess we just need to go on the defensive and be nice to radical Islam?

I’m merely posting pertinent facts about Giuliani’s actual record fighting terrorism. It’s better to get all the relevant information out now, good and bad — should we instead make decisions based on only part of the record, and let the MSM hit us with the nagative news during the general election? If it’s relevant to post in support of Giuliani’s record on terrorism, it’s equally relevant to post the negative things in his record. These things aren’t going to go away if we ignore them in the primary - they will just blindside us later.
