Memphis police were looking Monday night for the thieves who stole seven weapons from a North Carolina SWAT team van parked in South Memphis.
Members of the SWAT team based in Raleigh, N.C., were eating at Interstate Bar-B-Que, 2265 S. Third, about 3:30 p.m. Monday when they realized their van had been broken into, said Lt. Jerry Gwyn of Memphis felony response.
Taken were three machine guns, two semi-automatic handguns, and two 12-gauge shot guns, Gwyn said.
The officers, who were traveling from Raleigh to Little Rock for training, noticed two thieves driving away in a burgundy Ford Expedition, Gwyn said. A video surveillance camera also caught the thieves in action.
"We’re concerned with getting these guns off the street," Gwyn said. "We have a lot of folks working on it right now."
The theft was reminiscent of a heist in 1997, when thieves stole a Little Rock FBI team’s Suburban. Inside the SUV were grenade launchers, M-16 rifles, submachine guns and other potent weapons, which were found after an intense three-day search.
...and shoot your dog in the process.
The SWAT upgrades to local PD’s was ordered by President Bill Clinton.
I'm sure you do .... but it's about as productive as arguing over the exact shade of birdcrap that just landed on your windshield.
Now, I'm gonna go take my 45 Long Colt and put them in a clip ...
Hope that was like nails on a chalkboard for ya ... ;)
“Now, I’m gonna go take my 45 Long Colt and put them in a clip”
Now THAT’S funny.
“but it’s about as productive”
I’m not here to be productive.
Damnit man .... stop making so much sense!!
Actually I did research once how to turn a Desert Eagle from 44Mag to 45COLT (happy now?) ..... it was an expensive proposition.
— — If I hear the term clips I am going to puke. They are called magazines Tupac.
— Being a shooter myself and possessing several magazines I’m going to call them whatever I damned well please vocabulary cop.
Thank you, C2k! I misspent a large part of my youth playing ‘army’ and saying ‘clip’ all the time. Now, nearly 1,000 years later, I still slip up now and then.
Also, ‘magazine’ is a bit long to say or spell. Over time I hope ‘mag’ will become the de facto term and we’ll all breath easier.
If accurate that is so freaking scary!
The cops in bad shoots = no worries.
Non-cops in good shoots = lucky with life in prison rather than a needle.

I have to ask..Why? The Colt round is one of the best cast bullet rounds there is. Why would you put it in a pistol that restricts you to jacketed slugs?
A gun like that would have a very high “cool” factor though.
What was this thread about again?
I think the information is accurate.
The Cato Institute is not a crackpot organization, and you can click on each of the balloons on the graphic in order to get specific info on the particular botched paramilitary raid. Like the title of the study said, its an “Epidemic of Anecdotes,” unfortunately.
Sheesh
A gun like that would have a very high cool factor though.
Because I like 45 Colt and think the 44 magnum sux. Plus I just like keeping my calibers in common.
