Emerging Church is a buzzword, but represents a real phenomenon. It’s churches popping up outside the stream of denominations and systematic theology - and outside of many of the usual rules and expectations of same. It does not necessarily mean heretical or liberal - in fact many of these churches are based on Acts 2 and lots of solid scripture. It’s more about attempting to do Christianity without so much of the usual Church baggage.

As far as I can tell, you're close.
It seems to be a movement of people who enjoy the trappings of feelgood, megachurch Rick Warrenism but who think its gauche to criticize personal immorality.
It's much easier to call for "social justice" than to say: "Stop murdering babies!"

"What is an Emerging Church Christian? Sounds like they're glorying in the fact that they were born yesterday? ...Or born again yesterday?

What is an Emerging Church Christian?
Here is a portion of an excellent article. I think this is very important to understand. Th erest of the article can be found
Thus, this purpose-driven view of establishing global utopia may be a plan, but it is driven by humanistic reasoning and not led by the Holy Spirit. While it is of course good to do good unto others, all the goodness that we can do will not be good enough. Pastors and church leaders who get involved in such man-driven programs can usually be identified by certain characteristics:
- Sound biblical doctrine is dangerous and divisive, and the experiential (i.e.,mystical) is given a greater role than doctrine.
- Bible prophecy is no longer taught and is considered a waste of time
- Israel becomes less and less important and has no biblical significance
- Eventually the promises for Israel are applied to the church and not Israel (Replacement Theology).
- Bible study is replaced by studying someones book and his methods
- Church health is evaluated on the quantity of people who attend.
- The truth of Gods Word becomes less and less important
- Gods Word, especially concepts like hell, sin and repentance, is eventually downplayed so the unbeliever is not offended.
