In February's poll, the former New York City mayor had 39 percent of the support of Republican voters but that dropped to 35 percent in the April 17-18 survey.
Arizona Sen. John McCain, who opposes abortion but supports embryonic stem cell research, has dropped as well. He's slid from 19 percent in February to 16 percent in April.
The leading candidates have dropped because Republican voters are shifting to more conservative presidential candidates or others whose names have been bandied about as possible GOP nominees.
Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who recently changed his position on abortion, moved up from 6 percent in February to 10 percent in the April Fox News poll.
Meanwhile Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson, who have not announced a bid, jumped from 7 percent to 9 percent and from not being in the poll to 8 percent, respectively.
Looking at other candidates, ex-Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson moved up from 2 to 4 percent, pro-life Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback stayed the same at two percent as did pro-life Rep. Duncan Hunter. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas Gov. had one percent but no other candidates reached one percent in the poll.
Some 11 percent of Republicans were unsure.
Last week, Giuliani came under fire for telling pro-life advocates to get over the abortion issue.
"Our party has to get beyond issues like that," he told the Des Moines Register newspaper.
He also appeared to indicate that the Republican Party won't gain supporters if it retains its pro-life position.
"Our party is going to grow, and we are going to win in 2008 if we are a party characterized by what we're for, not if we're a party that's known for what we're against," he said.
Those comments followed the flap on abortion funding.

As a liberal Giuliani belongs in the Democratic Party. He maybe a Republican in name only, but Rudy is NO conservative. This guy must be stopped. Pro-life Americans want to reverse abortion on demand, not get beyond it!
When people pledge money to a candidate like Rudy, if he decides he doesn’t have a chance to be nominated and withdraws form the race in the primaries, what happens to the money people pledged if it isn’t spent?

Rudy has shown plenty of backbone. He turned down the Saudi prince's gift of 10 million, he told Arafat to leave New York, and had a get tough on crime policy in New York that really cleaned things up. In addition, he handled the 9-11 crisis in New York extremely well. He is a strong supporter in the war on terror. He has plenty of positives, it is only that his negatives are so great if one happens to be a conservative.
He is, in short, a RINO. He may very well be a superior choice over Hillary/Obama too. The problem is that the Republican conservatives would destroy the party to have him.

Rudy = RINO (media would crush him on his marriages, etc.)
McCain = Will say (or sing) anything to get elected ... changes views frequently (media would crush him on his temper, Keating 5, etc.)
Romney = Another position changer (media will hammer him on that ... and you will her jokes about us having first ladies ... plural; descendent of polygamists)
I will vote for him if he’s the nominee, but he’s not my choice for the nominee.
Sorry but any man who promotes the killing of innocent babies—does not have a backbone. See post #22 for more evidence of his lack of backbone. No point in being redundant on this thread.

Plus, no party will grow if it is killing off its future children.
Not even in the general election when a no vote will be a vote for Hillary or whoever the Democratic nominee is?
