Good for them!! Save the Unborn!!!
They won’t be having partial birth abortions, as this is limited to the three months of the pregnancy, but they already permit the practice in cases where the woman was impregnated during the commission of a sex crime, and Mexico City allows the practice if the mother’s life is threatened. I can’t imagine this making the troubled nation a better place.

This is the biggest red herring.... I love that here and there, everyone puts the most irrelevant situation up to the front.
Kinda like sculpting a law about the right to carry a gun when Martians are attacking... Nobody could argue that one.
An interesting side-light: A federal deputado, similar to a U.S. representative in Congress, proposed a federal law restricting abortions. He is a Green, and I believe, a member of one of the fringe/minority parties. He proposed the law in direct opposition to the local Mexico City ordinance. (Actually, Mexico City is a “federal District” just like DC, so this proposal has interesting jurisdictional issues.)

Tragic news for preborn babies!
In a few days, on April 24, 2007, the legislature for Mexico City hopes to push through a proposal to legalize abortion in one of the largest cities in the world. Legislators from Mexico’s leftist parties expect to use the legalization in their nation’s capital as a springboard to liberalize the brutal practice of child-killing throughout the country.
Despite the fact that most Mexicans oppose abortion, pro-abortion lawmakers seek to take advantage of their slight majority in the Mexico City legislature to force the measure through. If passed, the law would also make the state pay for abortions at state run health clinics.
Secret abortions on minors may follow soon. According to CatholicNewsAgency.com, the director of the Institute for Youth in Mexico City, Javier Hidalgo, announced this week he would support a move to allow minors to obtain abortions without parental consent.
Hidalgo, a member of the Socialist PRD party, has supported efforts by the Mexico City Legislative Assembly to legalize abortion and told reporters that in cases of “unwanted pregnancies,†the State should assume responsibility for underage girls as in cases of guardianship.
Opposition to the pro-abortion bill has been gaining strength. People around the world are working to prevent the legalization of abortion in Mexico.
