Let me share an anecdote about Peach, if I may....

A number of months back she and I had a conversation about the continued infiltration of FR by DU trolls that began as a campaign in the 90's by Hillary.

She told me about the book "Hillary's War," and proudly told me about JimRob's introduction to it, and the references to FR in the book.

I hadn't read it, so she sent it to me to read, and was clearly very proud to be a part of FR in those days, and still was very proud JimRob and FR.

That was just months ago.

And now, the owner of this forum, which she was so proud of and honored to be a part of, has banned her and called her 'an idiot'.....among other things. And she has been ridiculed and personally attacked on this thread by many because of the political candidate that she chose to support.

There are a lot of us who are wondering what's going on here, Jim. A lot who are afraid to post anything on this thread, and some of us who are either brave enough, or stupid enough to stick our necks out and try to figure out what's going on.

Peach was a fine freeper, and IS a top quality human being. She just chose to support the wrong guy, and not back down from it. That was her grave sin.

I'm just wondering aloud here if she is really the kind of person you want to permanently remove from Free Republic.........one who loves this country, and despises the Clintons. Because if she is, then many others, who know her mettle, will always wonder if they (we) will be next.

I want FR to be a beacon of truth and reason, and to have a strong voice in next year's election, but I am wondering what damage will be done to its credibility by what has happened here.

Truth & reason have no place in an environment where winning is what matters. The bottom line is that the GOP is a centrist, big government organization that professes to hold conservative views merely for political expedience.

How come there isn't a party comparable to the Greens on the right? At least hard-core leftists are true to their "core beliefs"; I fail to see that level of commitment on the right. Rather, Conservatives can't seem to reconcile why conservative Republicans ignore their input and pursue candidates like Rudy.

This stare down is nothing more than a game of chicken. The GOP is betting that Rudy can pick up more Dem voters than lost SoCons and sweep the big blue states - sort of Arnie on a national scale.

If they pull it off, then the conservative movement is dead within the GOP. At that point, RINOs (conservatives who violate their principles and vote R) are free to mirror the Greens and get down to promoting their vision of the country - without being tied to money-interests and other powers that currently control the GOP.

Apparently the purpose of the thread was to declare that passionate support of a certain RNC candidate won't be tolerated because management doesn't like the candidate. The official reason is that Peach slandered Reagan.

Peach has been insulted on many threads pertaining to Rudy, not just this one, and the insult attack posts were left standing. I can image it does get tiring.

Indeed.

Peach was a fine freeper, and IS a top quality human being.

Without a doubt OhioWFan.

I want FR to be a beacon of truth and reason, and to have a strong voice in next year's election

Me too!

but I am wondering what damage will has already been done to its credibility by what has happened here.

IMO.

Don't cry about it. It's Jim's site and he can resist liberal agenda takeovers as he wishes.

BTW somehow I doubt you were upset when fine Freeper Buchanan supporters were dropped.

Actually, her sin was to, for reasons known only to her, become increasingly bitter and personal in the past couple of weeks (I had said week but I’ve seen others say more), and fall into the trap of making negative personal attacks on other freepers, while defending a person most of us think is too liberal to be the choice of a conservative site like this for President.

Her “grave” sin was to post, after being warned to stop, an claim about Ronald Reagan that had been debunked, in support of her liberal candidate.

Even if her comment wasn’t inaccurate, she had already made the point several times, and the owner of the site told her to stop, and she decided her “free speech rights” to repeat the information ANOTHER time should trump his right to control the site.

Since earlier in this thread she specifically asked him to ban her if he had to, it looks to me like she was trying to get banned, although I don’t know that and I’m sorry she got banned. Several people suggested she just go to bed and come back in the morning, and I wish she had done that instead of pushing and pushing.

I feel about her like I feel when I have to punish my kids with a harsh penalty because, knowing the penalty, they refuse to obey or back down and continue to misbehave.

Peach did not have to be banned. The entire thing was in her hands. She knew she was going to be banned if she posted again, and she posted again.

As to the name-calling, I don’t like it from either side, but Jim was responding to a specific post she made that was an unintelligent post. (That’s how I would have said it, as I like to attack the message, not the messenger).

Since the history is here, I won’t repeat it, I’ll note that it was in the first couple hundred posts where the “idiot” came out, so it’s not hard to follow that aspect.

I think your anecdote backs up something I and others have said, that for some long-time Freepers there is what I think is an unhealthy obsession with Hillary that is driving support for a liberal that in normal circumstances would be the laughingstock of this site.

Just to give an example of why I say that, look at Chuck Hagel. Chuck has a very good ACU rating. In some circles, he is considered a far-right conservative, I know people are laughing right now. It’s just one or two issues he went off the “republican” reservation, major issues of course, turning against the war, and now we all laugh at him.

But Chuck Hagel is 5 times the conservative Rudy is, even on fiscal issues. Hagel is a good fiscal conservative, a good social conservative, and he’s trashed daily on this site, even worse than Rudy (not in volume but in words), because of his position on the war.

I firmly believe that if Rudy was polling at 5%, and if Hillary wasn’t running, the only Rudy threads here would be ones making fun of him for thinking he was a republican.

I’m just back from vacation, and have read through a good chunk of this thread.

It is deplorable. And embarrassing for this 7-year Freeper.

I knew it was coming to this. Good folks getting purged for supporting the ‘wrong’ GOP candidate. Mind-boggling.

Well, I better keep quiet up here in my hiding place, and listen for the inevitable footsteps coming up the stairs. My bags are all packed for that little train ride to the countryside... maybe I can still learn to love Big Brother...
