I look at this more as the firing of an employee for attacking and harrassing co-workers, lying to customers, and/or sabotaging the company productin this case conservatism. Thats my take, anyway. I have been here since 98 (actually 97 but I couldnt make my $200 computer work) I have had a enough fights with people in that time ...I have found the easiest and best way to handle somone who said something I didnt like is to find the off button or try another thread.

"Well, for whatever reasons you're oblivious to the realities of the actions of a great many of them here for years." Well, if you are saying that Rudy supporters are Keyes detractors, I can't argue, not having paid attention to the Keyes threads. I'm unconvinced, but unable to argue the point.

Heck...I agree with your observations of 2003 totally.
What I meant was that so many years in here, you get to 'KNOW' people.
Knock wood...I never was on the receiving end of one of Howlin's 'dressing downs'. But whenever I read the beatings she was handing out...I was usually in agreement with her.
As I said before, she didn't suffer fools gladly.
Don't forget, this forum is not solely politics. Her presence on the forum was a big plus, IMO and will be missed.

" No... Im a fiscal conservative. Im a political conservative. Im a social conservative. I'm wondering if those who embrace the first two of your suppostions, but not the third, are still welcome here.
Which describes me, I'm not at all religious, although I am enough of a traditionalist to find within myself sympathy and support for most socially conservative issues. But I also find certain parallels between political correctness and puritanism. I don't like people like Jerry Falwell, for instance, though I think I share his view of Islam.

I’ve never known Alan Keyes to “set up a website.” You’re being dishonest.
Did somebody set up a website in his name? Did somebody go to jail?
This is one more example of a long-time tactic of Keyes-bashers online. It’s okay for every organization under the sun, including the RNC and every RINO in the country, to raise money. But let Keyes do it, to keep his operations and his cause going, and hooboy! What garbage.

Call them what you will. Position traps, queries, questions... Doesn’t matter to me. IMHO, they are nothing more than questions used to encourage the discussion. If the result is someone actually taking a position on something - which I already been challenged to do - then that’s a good thing. ;-)

“I’m wondering if those who embrace the first two of your suppostions, but not the third, are still welcome here.”
I think conservatives are welcomed here period. I can’t speak for RimRobinson, although I know he feels that you are either conservative or you’re not. If there are say 20 issues...and you agree with 17, that sounds pretty conservative to me.
“I’m not at all religious, although I am enough of a traditionalist to find within myself sympathy and support for most socially conservative issues.”
Interesting, you’re traditionalist enough to support most socially conservative issues. Sam, maybe you are a social conserivative and you are just deselecting yourself based on the leftist msm definition of social conservatism. I believe in evolution, though I haven’t ruled creation out. I’ve always been a Christian (and a poor sinner one at that) but there were times I didn’t attend a church (but always managed to find a bible to read, and always maintained my faith. We are all of different hues.

I’m a Christian conservative, and I’m not nuts about Falwell and Robertson either. The issue is whether you believe the media caricature of the Christian and social right.
We have to be able to tell our friends from our enemies. That means you reach a point of disagreement with someone, fine. You just withdraw and let it be. But with many Rudy rooters, that was difficult, if not next to impossible.
They were dominating this board and using the rhetorical tactics of liberals. If someone is conservative, I should at least be able to agree with them once in a while, or at least fine common ground.

Correct, Keyes is not currently a candidate. However, my question was asked of EV - and he is admittedly a Keyes supporter (nothing wrong with that at all, BTW). ;-)

There is no purpose to them honestly. For someone that dislikes the division on the boards right now you have spent your time on only these types of threads furthering the division with non sequiturs and victimization. Just my opinion. As a suggestion, perhaps staying away from the division and partipating elsewhere might help with the victimization you feel.
Conservatives are coming together and will unite in having the conservatives stand up and be counted in the next election.

Great post. :) Sorry this is so long. I appreciate your reading. :) Just curious on your thoughts. Personally I hope for Fred Thompson but that said.....
I think Hillary as President is the factor that has this entire thread debating... not Rudy Giuliani. The fear of her becoming president runs deep. Those 8 years of those people, and what the media has done to Bush and the loss of the midterm elections makes reality a bit scary. There are terrorists out there who can't wait to have another chance to kill us here. We have Reid, Pelosi and others. How frightening a thought is it should a liberal have control.
After 9/11 to have Sheehan and other liberals actually heard. Then Congress trying to fight funding for our Heroes, Troops. This is a sick world we live in. I don't want a 9/11 or worse to come. I live close to Manhattan. Lost loved ones that day. Here's only one heartbreaking example...A young waitress sweet young girl working while going to college, at Windows on the World. One last phone call....I'm ok. My husband was on a plane that very morning at the same time. Thank God he landed safely. It was a long time to know this.
We need someone to win. That is why I felt bad for some of those who have been banned. This what motivates many to defend Rudy. They think he has a chance to beat Hilde-beast. If he is the nominee, I'll vote for him. Example is Bob Dole running against Clinton in 96. Good guy or bad guy he wasn't going to win over Clinton. He never should have been the nominee. People wanted his wife. We needed to beat Clinton then. Things could have been different now had we. People fear what will happen with WOT, if a not totally conservative is running, so do they over look certain issues... that may be. Personally I think when Rudy Giuliani says he will only nominate Constitutionalists judges, I believe him. He will leave those issues to the states. Most importantly... What about our Brave Troops. I feel ill when I think they could be sold out. Someone to sell us out like the Clinton's have done. 8 years later and America is still paying for the Clintons.

“I wonder if you have put your finger on the real crux of this thing. Is that what is going on here, is support for Giuliani being used as a lever to rid FR of those who aren’t social conservatives? To make this a primarily “social conservative” site? To make a declaration that it isn’t conservatism if it isn’t social conservatism?”
Not used as a lever, JR has decided to unite FR in an effort to defeat Giuliani, that naturally forced to the surface many of the anti-social conservative bunch, many of whom stormed out when their agendas were thwarted, and their motives exposed.
It is largely a reassertion of conservatism, and a statement that it is time to get involved in the Primary race.
