The New Jersey Right to Life Banquet was a treat for the eyes, ears and pallet. Absolutely inspirational! It was great seeing Freepers present.

April 20th was the annual banquet for the New Jersey Right to Life Chapter. This was the first time I had atended (with another Freeper from NYC and with a woman who has been a very active pro lifer and lives in New Jersey) and I must say, we in New York could learn something from New Jersey right to lifers! Senator Sam Brownback was a guest speaker along with Ann Coulter, Congressman Scott Garrett and a former members of the New York Giants, Chris Godfrey, who is a member of Athletes for Life. The speaker who brought down the house was Star Parker, a black lady who used to be on welfare and had had several abortions, but is now very conservative and writes for Townhall. Parker discussed how she decided to get off welfare and get her life together and how much the welfare state hurts the minority community, especially single mothers. She also discussed how important it is to have a pro life presence in the black community which is so often targeted by Planned Parenthood and abortion mill owners. She did not hold back on what she thinks of people who refuse to put their lives back together and the hacks who enable them. Ann Coulter discussed the recent Supreme Court decision and pointed out how devastated the Democratic political machine is, led by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Boy Edwards. She pointed out the delicate steps that newspapers such as the New York Times take in order not to discuss the gruesome procedures that abortionists perform. Also very interesting were the clips of pro life commercials tnat New Jersey Right to Life is sponsoring. The producer of these commercials pointed out that in communities where they have been run, the abortion rate has dropped. On a personal note, I told Ann Coulter that I agreed with her comment on John Edwards (the one with the f a - - - - word) and added that "the $400 hair cut confirmed it"! She like that one. Several members of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal were also there as was the wonderful Father Peter West of Priests for Life. Despite the terrible odds against us, we in New York must learn from the New Jersey group which is very active and very dedicated.

Sounds like a great event!
Star Parker has three books out, I believe; try your library. She is a very solid thinker, a true small-government conservative.

She is terrific. I would like to see her on The View debating Rosie O’Donuts.

In one of her books, she talks about being on the “Oprah” show to discuss welfare. She had Oprah totally flabbergasted.

I have to add that although Congressman Chris Smith could not attend, he was present via video, and warned of what granny Nancy Pelosi had in store for us regarding abortion and how much harder we will have to fight with the pro aborts in charge. Very sad that they won congress. Lots of praise, by the way, for Justices Roberts and Alito.

Ann Coulter told us how she was on Hannity and Colmes to debate whether welfare mothers should have Norplant implanted in them and that Star’s position was simply “No welfare - forget the implants - get them off welfare!.

Exactly. If only we had a hundred thousand elected officials, Federal, state and local, saying the same thing!

Wednesday’s news of the Supreme Court decision was a ray of light. However, we still have to keep fighting. I wonder what will happen to the clinic in Englewood, NJ, which specializes in partial birth abortion. Will the State Attorney General go after them now? Coulter pointed out that since Roe is so sacrosanct the only real break throughs we have had (from the Supreme Court anyway, and from a legal perspecive) were Wednesday’s decision plus the validity of parental notification laws. Very interesting. I also heard that on The View, Rosie O’Donuts was claiming that there are only “2,000 partial birth abortions performed a year” (which is 2,000 too many). We know that that horrible clinic in NJ performs about 2,000 a year so that figure of 2,000 per year is much too low.

We had better get congress back - all the more reason to get it back. True that some RINOS lost from the northeast but unfortunately, Rick Santorum, Jim Talent, Ann Northup, Melissa Hart lost also. Very sad. Heartbreaking. Intersting that the NJ group of Republicans - who are pro life - hung on.

Star Parker will be at the independent YR Club in Manhattan on May 10. Freepmail me for the details if you'd like to go. Rmlew usually posts the notice on the New York State page.
You go, pro-life freepers! Thanks for the report, jj.

Bet Oprah never asked her back.
Star’s books are good.

Something I have to mention: the politicians who were present either as speakers or guests, were predominantly Republican. There was only one Democratic pro life politico (I think from the state assembly) who was there as a guest - proving once again, that the Democratic Party is the Party of Death. Also present: Brett Schundler. What a great man and what a terrible loss for New Jersey! From McGreevey to Corzine - ugh!
