Running With Scissors (Dowd Takes Down Edwards)
New York Times ^ | 21 April 2007 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 04/21/2007 5:23:01 AM PDT by shrinkermd

...Americans have revered such homely leaders as Abe Lincoln. They seem open to balding pates like Rudy’s and flattops like Jon Tester’s. They don’t want self-confidence to look like self-love.[If this is original with Dowd, it is a very good summary of human nature]...

...Someone who aspires to talk credibly about the two Americas can’t lavish on his locks what working families may spend on electricity in a year. You can’t sell earnestness while indulging in decadence.

Mr. Edwards, the son of a mill worker, moved from a $5.2 million, six-bedroom Federal mansion in Georgetown to a 28,000-square-foot behemoth in North Carolina with a basketball court, a squash court, two stages and a swimming pool.

His 25-year-old daughter, Cate, a former editorial assistant for Vanity Fair, co-founded Urbanista, an online Rolodex that dispenses advice for “hip” girls in Manhattan, offering to be a “bestie” (a best friend) and answer questions like “Where should I go to get my Marc Jacobs shoes reheeled?” and “Does anyone know the best place to get a really great haircut?” One salon the site recommends is Warren-Tricomi, where Edward Tricomi says haircuts range from $121 to $300.

The cost of grooming hair is peanuts compared with the cost of grooming an image. Hillary is paying a fortune to try to buy the secrets of likability. Her financial reports for the first three months of 2007 show debts to consulting firms of $447,000.

My last electricity bill was about $58, and the one before was about $63. Don’t know what you need to have running that should run up your bill. BTW- I pump my own water out of my own well for the household usage and the 5 horses water tanks.

What Catherine Zeta Jones has done [except for the morale boost to any American male not yet at room temperature] is engage in a somewhat successful acting career and commercial career, and become a wife and a Mom. And she’s done it without disparaging or vilifying anybody in public [to my knowledge], nor continuing to moan, like a cat in heat, about her lack of mating opportunities [while blaming that failure on everyone but herself]. Dowd is a Harpy.

After about 10 minutes of listening to her speak she drops so far out of the "I'd Hit It" pool she couldn't get laid in an SIU frat house during a kegger.

Now, that's too tough!

Sure she could.....stick a sock in her mouth and pull a bag over her head (as prophylaxis against the MoDo stare of death), and away you go. Kegger's made.

Kinda like pre-game football locker-room pep rallies were made by Katie "Choo-Choo" Couric, once upon a time in old Virginny. Every starter a champion by game time.

Dowd is a Harpy

She is also an object lesson to girls, about The Doom of Sour Gender-Fems.

Complain about men bitterly enough, and lesbians are the only people who'll want you.

Don’t know what you need to have running that should run up your bill.

First of all, I live in Florida, so unless I live like a sub topical tribesman walking around in loincloth in the mid to higher 90's and 95% humidity for five months. Believe you don't want to see that. I probably be comfortable, but my neighbors might take offense.

So as to not a sub tropical tribesman wannabe, I run an AC unit and several ceiling fans to keep the air moving

Plus the frig, dishwasher, oven, stove, water heater, microwave, pool filter

On the plus side, I don't have to buy heating oil or gas.

It's probably a wash cost wise in the end
