Thank you. "Honor" indeed would be the correct verb. "Grant" is actually quite bad. The Constitution (including the Bill of Rights) grants nothing to the people... what it does is limit government. The notion that innate rights are somehow granted by the government is very dangerous. Some very fine folks opposed the notion of a Bill of Rights out of serious concerns that this misimpression would take root. Obviously they had a point.
It's a good piece but represents a regrettable slip by Fred. I hope he modifies his phrasing in the future.

Only from a "post-feminist post-Marxist queer Gaian perspective". Instead of the "Nun's Priest's Tale", it's the "Oppressed womyn's male-dominant monotheistic religious figure's tale".

General question.. The copyright for this article is ABC. Was this broadcast as one of Fred’s radio commentaries? National Review Online used to post mp3s of his commentaries along with the scripts, and this article appears in the same series as many that are accompanied by audio files.

My favorite qoute of the day!
“Virginia, like 39 other states, allows citizens with training and legal permits to carry concealed weapons. That means that Virginians regularly sit in movie theaters and eat in restaurants among armed citizens. They walk, joke, and rub shoulders everyday with people who responsibly carry firearms and are far safer than they would be in San Francisco, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, NEW YORK CITY, or Washington, D.C., where such permits are difficult or impossible to obtain.” -Fred T
I love how he takes it right to Rootys home town, take that Gun-grabber!

Notice how as a general rule, the RudyMcRomney backers don’t pollute the RKBA threads like they do the other FDT threads?

Your analysis is spot on, and as I noted below, I’m quickly warming to the idea of Sen. Thompson becoming President Thompson.
Politics is all about communicating a point of view, and Se. Thompson did a masterful job here.

“Democrats for FRed!!!”
You were right. And I think that “Democrats for Fred” is probably where this is headed, at least for me.
I worked President Reagan’s campaign in 1980, and I’m beginning to think that this fellow has the potential to become sort of a second Gipper. I want to see how he deals with the inevitable attacks on his past and his character, but I tell you, this guy can communicate!
So what’s the speculation as to when Sen. Thompson will announce?

“Have you by chance seen some of Freds Pre- 9/11 speeches? He communicates quite well, especially in one speech where he talks about the Islamic threat in much clarity.”
No, I’ve not. Unfortunately I’m on dial up so videos would take all day to download. I’ll keep the link for next time I get on high speed. Thanks.

Here is my analysis of why this column by Fred Thompson is so significant...
Amen, Amen, AMEN! Beelzebubba, you have superperbly parsed Mr. Thompson's deeply moving commentary on the Right to Bear Arms. Thank You!
In recently subscribing to the Fred Thompson ping list I note with some dismay that what I might call "purists" take issue with this and that, expecting that we must have a perfect candidate to carry the conservative banner. This ain't gonna happen. Every politician has done or said something that will bring pause to some of their supporters, but we must rise above this and recognize that inherent quality will always be better than the shifting sands of the politicos on the make for the make's sake.
I believe in Fred Thompson like I believed in Ronald Reagan. Not perfect, but a man who can lead us without a yoke around our necks.
Go Fred! Say You Will!

I want to add my congratulations also for a good analysis. And as for me, Enterprise, I am compelled to throw a little fat in the fire. I can't help it, it's my nature.
Hey Virginia Tech, you got your gun free zone. In the words of Dr. Phil: "How's that working for you now?"

Super analysis Beelzebubba, thanks for the ping to it jellybean.
I'd be willing to bet cash money that nobody in any of those classrooms was thinking:
Gee, I'm so glad that nobody else here has a gun. Thank goodness the college made a rule against that.

I can think of 4 but I believe there are some in the race that I am unaware of, not really following the lesser candidates all that closely.
