BLACKSBURG, Va. - The family of Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho told The Associated Press on Friday that they feel "hopeless, helpless and lost," and "never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence." "Our family is so very sorry for my brother's unspeakable actions. It is a terrible tragedy for all of us," the family said.
The statement was issued by Cho's sister, Sun-Kyung Cho, on her behalf and that of her family. She works as a contractor for a State Department office that oversees billions of dollars in American aid for Iraq.
"We pray for their families and loved ones who are experiencing so much excruciating grief. And we pray for those who were injured and for those whose lives are changed forever because of what they witnessed and experienced," she said.
"Each of these people had so much love, talent and gifts to offer, and their lives were cut short by a horrible and senseless act."
The statement was issued during a statewide day of mourning for the victims of the worst massacre in U.S. history.
"We are humbled by this darkness. We feel hopeless, helpless and lost. This is someone that I grew up with and loved. Now I feel like I didn't know this person," she said.
"We have always been a close, peaceful and loving family. My brother was quiet and reserved, yet struggled to fit in. We never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence."
She added: "He has made the world weep. We are living a nightmare."
She said her family will cooperate fully with investigators and "do whatever we can to help authorities understand why these senseless acts happened. We have many unanswered questions as well."
I hope grace enters their lives and comforts them as well as the families and friends of those that were killed at VT.
Why would the journalist include this statement...billions of dollars...why is that relevant info?
ah, must be Bush’s fault.
Have been praying for the family. Feel so badly for his sister.
I lift them up in prayer to God. There is hope, and there is light even in their darkness...
I pray that they will feel the love of God around them, manifested through our prayers and actions.
Same reason they showed the vile video of Cho’ ranting.
Could it be because reporters are idiots?
I feel terrible for this family, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.
Amen, prayers for all.
Very sad. It’a clear they are suffering deeply.
Lots of pride in these cultures. Come to a new country. Work hard, try to fit in and succeed. Then one of them dishonors the family and ancestors.
The only thing worse than having a child killed in a mass murder is being the parent of the child that committed it. I can’t imagine what they’re going through, or how I would react if one of my children did something like this. I’d go nuts poring over every memory and event in their childhood trying to figure out where I went wrong, or what could have been done differently.
The kid is dead, but the family is scarred for life.
To feed the lunatic left. They will latch onto this fact like leeches.
because they don’t think. they’re like robots. they don’t write original score on anything. they naturally and reflexively throw those adjectives in because every story they write on iraq has required them.
Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe because Cho had some radical Islamic thinking behind his writing? He was very anti-America, anti-wealth minded. Interesting that she is involved in aiding Iraq. IMHO, Iraq can make their own money. I don’t think aid from America should be prominent.
We have given valuable and precious lives for their freedom. If they can’t take over and make a go of it soon, aid should be stopped.
Amen to that. They moved away from Centreville.

I thought that was strange also, but then I figured it out. She is involved in the war in Iraq, therefore, the evil Bush, who is responsible for all manner of evil acts that take place on this earth, is ultimately responsible for her brother’s evil acts.
