It looks as though another vessel had pulled along side the Ghost Ship. There are three fenders hanging on the port side. Apart from the torn sail, the ship looks well maintained and properly buttoned down... meaning the crew are good sailors. A good sailor never leaves port with his fenders dangling. Another ship was at her side. Pirates?
As for the torn sail.. it could only last so long in an untrimmed position. When another vessel pulls alongside, the sails are slacked to reduce forward motion.

Probably kidnapped by muzzie pirates. Look for ransom demands in the near future.

I’m no expert on sailing, but a question comes to mind: is it possible that a rogue wave could have knocked all three of them off the deck? Or would it be impossible for the yacht’s electronics to continue to function so well after such a calamity?

Astute observations. However, whoever boarded the ghost ship slacked the sails and put the fenders out? I doubt it, at least as far as the fenders go, but it would be nice to know if this picture was taken before or after the ship was boarded.

I was thinking the same thing.  Starting your engines, slacking sail and tossing your fenders clearly indicate another boat coming alongside. Of course if it was pirates they are pathetically incompetent as not only do they not have the boat, they don't even have the laptop or a full stomach.

If it were pirates, why would the fenders be out? Pirates would be uninvited, and their arrival would most likely be a sudden one, so why would the yacht's crew accommodate the pirates with fenders? It would seem to me that whoever came along side was expected.

Also, as others have noted, why would the pirates not take valuable electronic gear such as radios and computers from the yacht. If their intent was to kidnap the crew for ransom, why has no demand been made?
