The owner of an East Oakland pizza parlor shot and killed a robbery suspect during a chaotic confrontation during which the owner's son was accidentally shot, police said today.

Three men entered Coliseum Pizza at 8999 International Blvd. shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday and demanded money, police said. The owner of the restaurant pulled out a weapon and opened fire, hitting one of the assailants, a 22-year-old man, police said.

The suspect died at Highland Hospital in Oakland. His name was not released today pending an autopsy by the Alameda County coroner.

During the shooting, the owner's son was apparently struck by bullets fired by his father, police said. The son was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening,

It's sad about the son.

It’s really sad that it happened in California. The Pizza-Parlor owner father will likely go to prison for a long time.

What a travesty of justice. The shop owner took away the right of the robbery suspect to have his opinions aired on NBC Nightly News after committing a double homicide.

I guess the father’s “gun control” was a little off.

I’m thinking it must be darn hard to get in much range time in San Fransico/Oakland.

I sense the humor in your post, but you might be surprised. There are four ranges within 20 minutes of my place in the south bay.

And the Chabot Gun Range in the hills just behind Oakland is world class.

I actually didn't know that. My knowledge of California is from afar--about as far away as I can stay--LOL!

Just teasing you, I've spent a lot of time visiting in CA (going out there again in a few days). The sheer beauty of most of the state is beyond belief. You guys are really lucky in that respect.

By the way, Second Amendment Sisters has 2 state coordinators in CA and our membership out there is really growing. You're sure invited to join us!

(Officer)Holmgren said, "We're not saying that we want citizens to go out there and arm themselves and take the law into their own hands. We want citizens to be good witnesses, to be good report-takers and to identify suspects." The shooting has left two families traumatized, Holmgren said. "There are no winners in this whole case."

We want citizens to be good victims. What a schmuck. The robbery left one family traumatized. The shooting left the other traumatized.

Sorry.I should have explained that the city renamed East 14th street to reflect Oakland's "diversity".It's still hard to get used to seeing it in print and it's been some years.

There’s a lot of that going around. San Francisco’s Army Street became Cesar Chavez a few years ago. You still don’t want to be there after dark.
