Fred Thompson: Liberal in Disguise (Calling all Fredheads! Debunk the misinformation!)
News Blaze ^ | 04/20/2007 | Basil Harrington

Posted on 04/20/2007 6:02:18 AM PDT by Ultra Sonic 007

It seems that conservatives are about to make the same mistake that they made in 2000. Every Cassandra warned the movement conservatives that GW Bush was a liberal, but they were all duped by his "compassionate conservatism," which we since have learned really means "liberal globalism."

Now, despite all the warnings, they are about to be conned by Fred Thompson too - another neocon (aka liberal globalist). Will they get what they deserve? Can people really be so shortsighted? In 2011 will we hear GOP cheerleaders, "If only I had known...."

Let's look at Fred Thompson on the issues.

First and foremost, let's ponder immigration, the greatest threat facing the West today. As Jean Raspail foretold in Camp of the Saints, the "best conservative novel ever written," a third-world invasion of the West is taking place, and we must make a stand - before it is too late.

Although tough talking on border control, Fred Thompson has a rather weak record from his time in the Senate. Americans for Better Immigration only gave him a career grade of C. And on chain migration, visa lotteries, reducing unnecessary visas, asylum fraud, and reducing amnesties, he received rather low marks.

Thompson is almost certainly pro-abortion, regardless what he feigns. He has said, "The ultimate decision must be made by the woman." In other words, he believes it's a "choice."

Thompson is pro-affirmative action, and his two votes in the Senate guaranteed that under-qualified minorities would be given preference over Euro-Americans (i.e. white people). Thompson obviously believes that victimology should trump hard work.

And like all neocons, Thompson supports free trade, which is destroying our economy and undermining our sovereignty. Historically, conservatives opposed free trade, and they should; it's national suicide. But Thompson like many GOP cheerleaders has been "neoconned" on this issue.

In foreign policy, Fred Thompson is an adamant neocon globalist. He is a fellow at the neocon American Enterprise Institute, and a member of the neocon / neoliberal Council on Foreign Relations, which supports the creation of a North American Union and the eradication of American sovereignty.

In short, Fred Thompson is no real conservative. He's a neocon globalist. Only look at his past actions, memberships and words.

We already have three real conservatives in the running (Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Duncan Hunter) and let's give them the support they deserve. If Fred Thompson receives the nomination, I'm voting Constitution Party.

If I had a nickel for every political candidate who had been anointed with the magic "he can win" salve and didn't, I would be a wealthy man. I do have to admit that watching the earnest True Believers talking themselves into all sorts of inane ideas never looses its power to amuse.

I presume you're including the Rudybots in that assessment? I love their idea of running a northeastern lib against a northeastern lib being the ONLY way we can win.

Whether you’re for Hunter, Thompson, Guiliani, Romney or even McCain, if you like your guy give us reasons to share your opinion, not just more flamebait...

Well said.

Hmmm...are you a Rudy fan? If so, could you explain to me just why (with supporting facts like exit poll data) why running a northeastern lib against Hillary (a northeastern lib) is the only way we can win?

>Did he simply forget Duncan Hunter was running, or...?>

How about he decided he’d better call in the heavy artillery? So many on Free Republic are convinced that Hunter can’t win, and are willing to settle for less. That mistake can’t be made again. We’d all better get 100% behind the man for these times, Duncan Hunter!

Red herring. It’s more campesinos in Mexico and prison and slave labor in China I’m concerned about...

I disagree. It's not a red herring. If an industry in this country can't compete in international markets, why should we protect them, especially if they are not "strategic" industries? If you raise import taxes and quotas high enough, it becomes feasible to raise coffee in Alaska, but the consumer would bear the brunt via higher prices. Protectionism is rarely to the benefit of the public and is almost always subsidizing a specific industry.

That makes me apprehensive of his perception capabilities.

So, that makes you think he can't perceive, but his conservative positions on virtually every other issue don't inspire confidence?

Who's your chosen candidate, and what's his position on CFR?

P.S. Duncan Hunter is not owned by big business. His support comes from citizens concerned about the disappearance of their country.

One reporter quoted Fred as saying that, and Rudybots (and now, Constitution Party dorks) claim that proves he’s a major pro-abort. Just ignore the 0% NARAL rating and the 100% pro-life record in the Senate. It’s just a smokescreen. /sarcasm

Number one, your “title” of that link is a LIE. That is one of the research papers, NOT the position of the organization.

Number two, did you read it? It is arguing that border security needs to be STRENGTHENED, due to globalization. It doesn’t advocate globalization.

Number three, I am glad that Fred has a deep interest and expertise in foreign affairs.

These calls by Rudy supporters to prove Thompson’s conservatism are less than shrewd. Rudy is a liberal. I will only support him if he wins the nomination after a hard fought primary where I’ll be supporting a conservative candidate.

Rudy is a last resort candidate. The Party hierarchy is proving one thing here, they deserve to be replaced. That battle is every bit as important as keeping a Dem out of the White House - every bit.

I heard Fred state fairly recently that he now believes the only way to handle campaign finance is to take off all restrictions and add instantanious reporting of sources.

If true, that's outstanding, and an easy sell to the electorate.

I don’t have a problem with the link...I have a problem with a guy who supports a sanctuary city mayor trying to play games with Thompson’s immigration record. And I have a problem with report cards that don’t include the votes they’re rating.
