April 20, 2007 -- IN a disturbing voice-mail message recorded on April 11, Alec Baldwin called his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, "a rude, thoughtless little pig" after she didn't answer her phone for a court-ordered conversation. Baldwin left a two-minute rant, shouting, "I made an a - - out of myself trying to make this call . . . You have insulted me for the last time. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being." Insiders told Page Six the message was submitted as sealed evidence during Wednesday's custody hearing over Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger's rights to their daughter.....

How can you be so positive that it is “manufactured” drama? Couldn’t it just as easily be a frantic mom trying to protect her kid in case she didn’t prevail in the motion to suspend visitation? Then his vile attitude and subtle threats would be out in the public domain and he wouldn’t dare try anything with the kid on his “visitation day”. I’ve seen both in my experiences. Yes, the tape was leaked in violation of a court order, and I don’t condone that, but things are not always done with evil intent. Flame away.
That would be mom firing photon torpedoes into Alec's "career" such as it's been lately.
And how do you suppose publicly releasing this would “protect” her daughter, based on your assumptions??? Public cannot prevent visitation rights, the courts do. Courts and police handle such domestic matters.. this is purely drama, has no business in public and has even less business being latched on by politicos as it has been.
For the sake of the daughter, I wish this had not been aired.
Most here screaming the loudest about Baldwin have no clue... certainly anyone saying kid doesn’t want to speak to their parent its ok... they surely have no clue about kids or messy divorces.
I have more than a clue and I can tell you that if my child's father talked to her that way, especially on an ongoing basis, we'd have huge issues....married or not. Would you force your kid listen to that?
Had she picked up her phone, or her mother made sure that in spite of the divorce, the man is still her father and she will respect him, he wouldn’t have been talking like that.
Amazing. Instead most divorces see the parents using kids as pawns to hurt the others, and making sure to do what they can to undermine the other one.... which of course leads to situations like this one, especially when the custodial parent lives somewhere far away from the non custodial one.
Sorry, but mother should have been making damned sure the kid answered his calls, especially since it seems these calls were also court ordered.
Yeah, because he's never talked that way to anyone before, right? What if she was simply using the bathroom when he called and left this rant? You have no idea how he would have talked to her if she answered the phone and for some reason are ignoring his history of doing this type of crap time and time again. It has nothing to do with politics. The man throws temper tantrums like this all the time.

Let’s just say that I have some identification with what a vindictive, spiteful, custodial ex-spouse can do. I have been on the receiving end of this, just like a lot of people.
However, the words, tone, and constant harping on “I”, “me”, and “my” by this man tells me that he is a true POS. This has nothing to do with his politics.
Kim Whatsername is more than likely another shallow, Hollywood naricssist, but Alec Baldwin is no man.

Agreed. I wonder why he was limited to one phone call at a predetermined time. It could be because of the anger issues and possible prior telephone harassment of the family, or it could be because Mom is playing games. I would suspect the former from what we have seen publicly of this man’s rage, and give Mom a little bit of the benefit of the doubt (understanding, but not excusing, her violation of the gag order).
I agree it seemed to come somewhat easily to him and is a serious problem for this poor kid. This should not have hit the media, IMHO, yet should be dealt with and corrected immediately within the family.
I hope this kid has a resonable support system.
Not at all. Yet I would hope that I wouldn't let the situation get out of control like that. I have no clue if Kim Bassinger had anything to do with the tape being released.. I hope she didn't. This poor kid is hearing her personal business put out via the mass media. This doesn't just involve the parents, which she's used to.
By the grace of God I've never been in such a situation so I can only speculate how I would react. I would hope I'd move heaven and earth to bring my child thru it in the best possible way, whatever that might be.
I agree that the rant came too easily and is probably only the tip of the iceberg .. this poor kid was stuck with two clunkers as parents, so I DO feel sorry for her.

Since she left him for berating her like that in public and beating up some photographers....etc... I hardly think Kim is responsible for it getting out of hand like that....put the blame squarely on Alec Baldwin where it belongs. He has been out of control for years.
