Lakeia White, 20, pleaded guilty but mentally ill Wednesday to two counts of homicide by child abuse. She admitted putting a pillow over her sons Devion and Trevon Wilson on Oct. 11 to settle them down.

The judge said White will likely end up serving eight years if she stays out of trouble in prison.

1. "Mental illness" is a crock when it comes to guilt. It, like consumption of alcohol, should not even exist as a mitigating circumstance in any legal capacity. I've read all of the bleeding-heart "reasons" for the status quo, and find them laughable.

2. She was given such a pathetic sentence for another reason - the (sub?)conscious ascription of lower value to a younger life. A truly sick symptom of the depth of society's moral decline.

It's a crock plea anyway. A person has to be mental, nuts, crazy anyway to deliberately take someone's life. A mentally ill plea should be kicked out of the courtroom every time.

An adult who is murdered at least has some chance of either deserving it or of defending himself. A child cannot.

Child murder should be punished more, not less, severely.
