The English (and other Western and some Eastern European) alphabets and their descendants are commonly referred to as the Roman or Latin alphabet, Wikipedia link. Yes, the Romans only used capital letters, and and didn't have some English letters, such as W. But this script still is descended from the Roman alphabet, and therefore from the Phoenician alphabet, and there are many similarities.

If you weren't supporting a connection between Carthaginians and the Maya, then what was the point of your post? And as you can see from the pictures, the two writing systems aren't similar.

I don't believe the Carthaginians made it to the New World and the last line of my first post was intended to be facetious. There was supposedly a Phoenician inscription found in Brazil (which I think has disappeared) which would be a little less implausible, but which was probably as genuine as the Kensington runestone.

I also don't accept the belief held by some Afrocentrists that black Africans got to Mexico and imparted their knowledge to the Olmecs.

The point of my original post was to call attention to some bizarre views held by one of the first Europeans to see the Maya ruins.
