Washington -- Sen. Barbara Boxer promised to pressure the Bush administration to adopt California-style global warming regulations, telling reporters today the Supreme Court "handed us a gift" with its recent landmark decision authorizing the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce greenhouse gasses as a pollutant.
The decision "put the wind at our backs," the California Democrat said, vowing at the National Press Club to haul administration officials before her Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to ask them what immediate steps they will take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are produced by the consumption of fossil fuels.
"I will hound them on this week after week after week after week," said Boxer, who chairs the committee. "It doesn't take China doing anything. It doesn't take India doing anything. It doesn't take Congress doing anything."
The administration has the power to act on its own, she said, and "I intend to move to make sure the administration uses its powers."
Among the steps she said she expects the agency to take is allowing California a waiver from federal rules, which would allow the state to impose greenhouse gas emissions limits on automobiles. She also wants a similar rule adopted nationwide, as well as new limits on all new and existing coal-fired power plants. A national rule would reduce greenhouse gases from cars by 30 percent, she said, while gases from utilities account for 40 percent of emissions nationwide.

I already have a religion, Babs. I don’t need yours, thanks.

I guess this is more of that "bipartisanship" and "working together with the President" that Shadow President Pelosi told us so much about in 2006.
Well if anyone can do this, it's you, Ms. Boxer.
The President should call their bluff. Send Kyoto to the Senate for ratification. See how they run.
Perhaps the EPA should enact standards in 49 states...and leave California in the smog.
No rain dances or limiting CO2 emissions in CT please, I’ve had it with rain and cold this spring.
Is Boxer buying “Carbon Offsets” for the hot air she is expelling?///
Hey, that was my thought also!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Cut California off from the mainland..There I fixed it....AHHH, that was easy.
We had kind of a dry winter and somewhat cold like the good old days. Anchorage got a ton of snow (per square foot). Pres Bush should take action so we get more snow here and less in Anchorage and spread out the cold days so they don’t come week after week.
Actually, I'm an old Californian of many generations. I'd rather send all of the nut cases back where they came from- the place would be liveable again.
1. Put a plastic bag over Babs' head and cinch it up tight.
2. Do the same with California congressional delegation (Rat contingent).
3. Stand back to avoid speeding glaciers.
No thanks Sen Botoxer, I don’t need your religion.
Fine, Babs. For every coal plant you shut down, I demand that a nuke plant be constructed.
California’s “green” law that was passed last year will require a 30% reduction in “greenhouse gases” by 2020. California’s population is expected to grow to 42 million by then. Where are they going to get power, Babs?
There is NO technology in existence today that will meet this goal. It’s nothing but a feel-good piece of crap.
Sadly, enviro nazis here will sue in court if it is not implemented, and a lovely liberal judge will order the state to restrict power to comply with the law.
Think I’m kidding? A judge here recently ordered the state’s water system shut down, cutting off water to 24,000,000 people, because some enviro nazi sued. Some fish were being killed by pumps.
I hope we can all survive working 4 hours a day. No AC for you! No heat, either. No fireplaces, BBQs, etc. Gas taxes under this law will go up 10 cents a gallon the first year, 20 cents the next, etc.
Watch for a huge exodus of working, productive citizens from CA. Businesses, especially small ones, will also leave in droves.
I hope someone, somewhere, has some idea how CA will pay for its massive “social programs” when all the taxpayers have gone.
Good luck.
“I will hound them on this week after week after week after week,” said Boxer...
Uhhh... can’t all of us here at FR do EXACTLY this to her? This works both ways, folks. Anyone beside me willing to step up to the plate and start hounding her office with mails, faxes, phone calls, letters and boxes filled with pointless garbage?
