Gunman contacted NBC News during massacre

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sometime after he killed two people in a Virginia university dormitory but before he slaughtered 30 more in a classroom building Monday morning, Cho Seung-Hui sent NBC News a rambling communication and videos about his grievances, the network said Wednesday.

Cho, 23, a senior English major at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, killed 32 people in two separate attacks Monday before taking his own life.

Network officials turned the material over to the FBI and said they would not immediately disclose its contents beyond characterizing the material as “disturbing.” It included a written communication, photographs and video.

Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News,” said in a posting on the program’s “Daily Nightly” blog that the communication was received earlier Wednesday. He described it as a very long “multi-media manifesto.”

The network said it would release a statement shortly.

From AP:

The Virginia Tech gunman mailed a package of photographs, video and writings to NBC News in New York BEFORE he killed himself in the massacre that left 33 people dead, authorities said Wednesday.

Unbelievable.

I’m completely evil for thinking this, but part of me wishes Cho didn’t shoot himself just so he could hear everyone say what loser he was and how nuts he was..

Why is the media quick to leak government secrets but slow to show their own communications?

What did NBC know and when did they know it?

Did they make any effort to warn anyone? Or did they just sit on it?

Why is the media quick to leak government secrets but slow to show their own communications?

Because apparently nothing in madman Cho's manifesto hurts President Bush, Republicans or aids terrorists.

somewhere he not only sees this he realizes he has zero changes to make amends for his sins and will spend eternity pondering the error of his ways.

Did he ask them to bring him more ammo?

So....now the shoe is on the other foot so to speak.

The media has been criticizing the campus security for not doing enough in that 2 hour time frame to stop him from going to the other building and killing so many more people.

Now...... let’s investigate NBC news and get to the bottom of why THEY didn’t call in a friggin SWAT team upon receipt of this disturbing information from this guy. Why didn’t they immediately take action to ensure that there wouldn’t be further casualties?????

Well, you wouldn't expect him to mail the package AFTER he killed himself...

Thanks, Captain Obvious at AP.

...so he could hear everyone say what loser he was and how nuts he was...

If it is any consolation, he was arraigned before the Great Bar of Justice. His case was awful. He is receiving his reward.

Imagine that... a viewer of NBC being that deranged. I wonder if he was seeking absolution from the god-like Chris Matthews (please pardon my sarcastic blasphemy).

The window may have been too short to act.

But there is no reason to supress this “until later”. What is the public interest (in knowing his intent) and what is the potential harm in releasing it? You can’t botch his trial. There won’t be one. If it is an Islamist (or at a minimum anti-Christian) attack, why hide it?

Yes, what did NBC know and when did they know it?

The timing is critical because if it was after the first shooting but before the 2nd shooting, Brian Williams et. al. should have had PLENTY of time to alert the authorities. What did they do? Did they ponder the situation for more than 7 minutes before doing anything????
