"A court order from 2005 states that Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-Hui was declared mentally ill and "an imminent danger to others."
are you serious? a court order issued in what context, he had no criminal record I thought?
Yes, but we still need more restrictions on guns. ///sarcasm off
This act of violence is looking more random all the time. /s
“Cho Seung-Hui was declared mentally ill and “an imminent danger to others.””
Shouldn’t that have been entered into the state NICS (instant backgound) system?
Breaking on CNN
“A court order from 2005 states that Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-Hui was declared mentally ill and “an imminent danger to others.”
Shouldn’t that be posted as its own thread?
Dreadful!
"A temporary detention order was obtained and Cho was taken to a mental health facility" on December 13, 2005, he said.
A student asking to be identified only as Andy said he was the one who told police that Cho was suicidal. Police "took [Cho] away to the counseling center for a night or two," said the student, who used to room with Cho.
Some FReeper who knows his way around the ATF forms needed to purchase a gun can answer this. Doesn't that form 4473 ask "Have you ever been declared mentally incompetent or been involuntarily committed to an institution?"

When you consider that they suspend and/or expel six year old boys for bringing a plastic knife to school, they handcuff and arrest 6 year old girls for kicking a teacher in the shin, they expel 7 year old boys for bringing a butter knife to cut his pb&j sandwich with, and they expel 6 year old boys for "sexual harrassment", how in hell can anybody excuse the V.T. president for not ridding the university of this dangerous, demented scumbag Cho? He was twice accused of stalking women, was booted from English class for writing frightening, macabre, bloody poetry, was recommended to psychiatry by a teacher, was considered to be "very mean" by another teacher, (who also said she feared his 'meanstreak'), was known to have been suicidal by the staff, etc, etc -- YET they allow him to stay. It's a damn shame that he wasn't caught with a plastic butter knife, they might have given him the boot then.
I hope a few high placed staff get raked over the coals for this, and the police as well. There was a two hour lag between his first and second murder spree and the University wasn't locked down in between killing sprees. The whole thing totally reeks of PC liberal staff repeatedly letting this guy off the hook, incompetent 'security' officers, and bumbling, incompetent local cops screwing up the whole affair.
This is from the CNN website. Nothing about "immiment danger to others," and the order was temporary.
CNN is wrong..he was ordered to see a shrink who cleared him..no conviction in court, no record, no shows up on the background check..the headline misrepresents the story..
Largely overlooked in the Virginia Tech Massacre story is the fact that if “Cho” had decided not to carry out his rampage, he would have graduated next month with a degree in English Literature. How’s that for academic standards
He was a democrat then...?
