Just heard anchorette report this on pMSNBC
I’m sorry for your loss. My brother committed suicide last January. I miss him more than I can ever express in words.
I'm sure that you also felt that he was no longer in pain, as I did. It was a very torturous experience to see him going through what he did. In some ways, we were both sad and relieved when he ended it.
I know what you mean. As much as I miss him, I find it hard to wish he was still alive.
NBC and all the networks have created a new “action hero” for the deranged. More forthcoming, guaranteed.
I am so very sorry for your loss. And for the anguish you must have felt before, as well as after. Mental illness and substance abuse affects the families as much as it does the those who directly suffer from them. I am just so sorry.
Yes, the guy who climbed up in the tower in Texas and shot people back in the sixties had a brain tumour. It didn’t come to light until the autopsy. My uncle’s father-in-law the same thing. His family could not understand why he had become so mean until after his death when the autopsy revealed the brain tumour.
Okay, I found the thread:

“Did you know that both houses of the Virginia legislature unanimously passed legislation within the past year or so that barred Virginia colleges and universities from expelling a student on the basis of mental instability?”
Agreed. We don’t want to go there. I am willing to pay the price that a deranged person might “go postal” and shoot me dead in the grocery store or wherever than to live in such a police state. I do not want us to become like the USSR was, where one could be locked away for being a bit odd or politically incorrect or owning a fine cow the neighbours coveted. No way.
For parents concerned about the safety of their children at universities, the best I can come up is the tentative proposal at the end of my post #1367. Still, that probably would not have prevented Cho’s murdering rampage. He probably would have done it all the same just before or after being expelled, or he would have done it somewhere else: a shopping mall or a theatre or somewhere he could gun down lots of people.
“Seeking information huh?”
Interesting concept, isn’t it? You ought to try it sometime.
“Seeking information actually says a lot about ones understanding of fundamental concepts and principles”
Sure does. It demonstrates the desire to obtain facts and expand knowledge. Again, you might want to try it sometime.
“In other words, there is such thing as a stupid question”
(and a stupid person).”
As evidenced by your own posts, absolutely.
Ping to #1312! Yikes!
Thank you, Froufrou.
Sad but true. When I first heard the news, my initial reaction was that it must have been a student or ex-student or someone connected with VT who had snapped. Still, ever since 9/11, I suppose there is something in the backs of our heads which wonders if something like this could be the work of terrorists.
As soon as the killer's identity was released, however, there should have been no more wondering about terrorists. I don't understand why people want to make this into a terrorist attack. It's a senseless tragedy. It was committed by a lunatic.
Perhaps it is that people can't deal with an unpredictable world where senseless tragedies happen? So they have to believe that someone is in control, whether a government plot, the illuminati or Islamic terrorists? That's all I can make of it.
There are and will be people who question why everything in Cho's package has not been broadcast and posted on the internet. Sad. Still, I hope NBC will refrain from going too far. There must be things in there the police would rather keep out of the public domain until they have concluded their investigation.
And Cho may have made wild and unfounded accusations against family members, professors, classmates which can only cause more damage and grief and are better left unpublicized. After all, the guy was very angry and very crazy.
email.... NIGHTLY@NBC.Com
Tell them we are upset that this video was shown. SENSOR.. this is nuts to show and continue to run over and over.............. the families have been hurt, don’t add by giving publicity to Cho or other home grown nut cases!
In what surreal universe are Asians getting minority preference for college admission anywhere in the United States?
It's Asians that are the MOST negatively impacted by the preferences for blacks and Hispanics.
I doubt many Jihadists are using terminology like “F___ing Osama” (MSNBC, in an act of supreme silliness, blacked out the profanities in the manifesto portions they posted, but I think it’s a safe assumption it was an F-bomb.)
It was talked about from the beginning, when the writing on his arm was first disclosed, but that’s okay, MM; I do appreciate your posting, anyway. :-)
But I have an overwhelming urge to watch Taxi Driver again.
