Just heard anchorette report this on pMSNBC
It appears the “Ishmael” persona was clearly important to this sicko, since he used it as the return address on his mailing to NBC and was reported to have written “Ismail Ax” or “Ismael Ax” on his arm in red ink before committing his act. I have also read that it was his gamer ID on XBox Live, but have yet to see this point reported in the MSM.
I agree that the Ishmael literary possibility based on the Biblical allusion is interesting speculation:

This shows up both in Melville and in a book by an idiot named Quinn in which he uses a telepathic ape named Ishmael to spout leftist envirowacky drivel, around which I gather a mini-cult has developed (which is discussed by various posters in this thread), as well as other writers of course.
His video and rantings were on all news outlets and printed in newspapers. That’s exactly what the creep wanted. He knew how the media do things in this country. He knew that the media would ignore him as a crackpot if he sent his message to them without actually doing anything. He knew that the media would obsess over his rantings if he committed murder.
This will inspire “copycat” killings of the same type. Crazy people who are angry and want their message spread all over and will do anything to get their rantings out, including dying.
The media have just enabled the next “copycat” killing.
In cases like this, the perp’s name must be suppressed. No photos should be published. Any “message” to the world must be read only by the police who investigate the murder. The creep must not be given a platform on which to proclaim his message of hate after his death.
I didn't know about the other literary reference to the ape, though. Very interesting.
David Gregory the pissant this A.M.: "We don't like being in this situation"
Yeah, right...
It seems to me the essential error in the system is that the entire mental health establishment is focused on "the welfare of the patient".
There was an instant in this case where someone declared Cho a "danger to others". THAT should have been a pivot point, causing the establishment to concern itself with public safety over and above the rights of the individual.
It appears that, once treated and released, the university wasn't even informed of the findings. That's ridiculous! There should have been a procedure for informing the school. Given the cite that he was a danger to others the school should have expelled him on the spot. Lacking that, they should have at least monitored him after he was released.
Sadly, we've been saddled with a mental health establishment that believes its patients should be "mainstreamed". No worse---given special privileges to allow them to function in normal society. Public safety is way, way down their list...because in their minds it stigmatizes the mentally ill if we talk about them as "dangerous".
We have to take on that establishment and demand that schools, employers, et al have a venue whereupon they can simply decide an individual represents a risk to public safety and doesn't belong in their environment. To heck with all the politically correct concern about the individual's well being. If he can't conduct himself in a proper, non threatening manner...too bad.
His roomates said he never played video games. Ismail is likely a muslim connection in his head at least.

“Thanks a lot jerk!”
Jerk?!! No matter what anyone posts on here I would NEVER call another FReeper that. And whether you care or not, it won’t be forgotten. Sorry that you take American Idol so freakin seriously. Get a life.
<< His roomates said he never played video games >>
That’s new info to me, thanks vy much
True, Mc Veigh hoped he wouldn’t be caught I suppose. But, my point is that these animals should NOT be made famous..I should be seeing the story of the brave individuals who aided those in need, like the professor. His life and history should be on every channel, instead of rehashing the views of this scum killer.
Did you see the film? If I didn’t know better, I’d say this was a recent convert to Islam. I’ve never seen such hatred. Ironic that he consumed that which he berated the consumption of. Perhaps that’s why he off’d himself; maybe he couldn’t stand the hypocrite he became.
No they weren’t illegal weapons - well at least not the 9 mm - he purchased that at the Gun shop and the gun shop owner followed the laws to the T. Am not sure about the other handgun. The 22.
My choice of words, not the Bible's. Which is why I didn't put it in quotes.
What Ishmael is is the product of Abraham's lack of faith in God's word. God promised him many descendants. As Sarah advanced in age with no children, Abraham panicked ("O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?). It was a test of his faith, which he failed.
Ishmael, father of the Arabs, was the product of that failure.
The Koran was simply a rewrite of this history for the sole purpose of elevating the bastard (again, my word) Ishmael's status.
There’s more video we may never see. NBC will never offend their terrorist darlings.
Something to think about. Thanks.
Totally agree with you. This little manipulative creep is getting everything he wanted. Typical narcissistic psycho-punk.
The arabic word for ax(e) is Fas. Oddly, it also forms the root for words such as decadent, evil, vile, debauched, etc.
So Ismail was cutting out debauchery and decadence with his guns. His picture with the hammer looks more like chopping with an axe.
Why couldn’t this dirtbag just kill himself?
