Gay Rights Bill Passes Oregon House Wednesday,
April 18, 2007 SALEM, Ore. Same-sex couples would receive the same benefits as married couples, and gays and lesbians would be protected against discrimination under bills approved Tuesday by the Oregon House. The Senate is expected to pass the two bills and Gov. Ted Kulongoski plans to sign both. The first bill would enable same-sex couples to enter into contractual relationships that grant them the same benefits offered to married couples under state law. The bill refers to the relationships as "domestic partnerships." Oregon would join Vermont, Connecticut, California and New Jersey in offering civil unions or domestic partnerships to same-sex couples. Massachusetts allows gay couples to marry. Hawaii extends certain spousal rights to same-sex couples, along with cohabitating heterosexual pairs. The Washington Legislature last week approved a limited domestic partnership bill that's expected to be signed into law soon. A national gay rights group called the Oregon vote part of a larger movement by state lawmakers to provide recognition for gay and lesbian couples. "The country seems to be taking a fresh look at this issue," said Evan Wolfson of Freedom to Marry. An opponent of the bill, state Rep. Dennis Richardson, said a fairer approach would be to allow a more limited range of marriage-style benefits to two people who live together. "This bill is in fact marriage by another name," Richardson said. The other bill that passed Tuesday would ban discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people in employment, housing and access to public accommodations. If it passes, Oregon would become one of 18 states with laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Just don’t look back!! :O)
Same-sex couples would receive the same benefits as married couples, and gays and lesbians would be protected against discrimination under bills...
Dumb question but here it comes. Are there any laws in place to protect heterosexual(married) couples from discrimination from GLBT (married) couples?
The voters will repeal this. We just banned same-sex “marriage” in the state constitution two-and-a-half years ago.
Myabe not. There seems to be a big difference between support for “same sex marriage” and “civil unions”. The name makes a huge difference to a lot of people.
For example - it is one of two states that actively allow CCW on college campuses to those with State recognized permits.
Go figure.
CCW?
“CCW?”

You have the right to remain silent...
Is this a great country, or what?
All you have to do is become part of one of the select "special classes", and you gain rights un-available to others.....
When pressed, I seriously doubt that this will hold up against the 1st amendment.
ping for later
Sad state of affairs.
It’s in the state constitution ~ the only place you can’t carry is in a court room and a Federal building.
It won’t. It shouldn’t have been passed anyway, but leftists never let the Constitution get in the way of what they want.
What else can you expect from a Commie state like Oregon? They even host Jihadist training camps. Oregon leads in the destruction of family values, abortion rights, trying to force people out of their cars and onto mass transportation, taxation without representation, excessive property and income taxes, corruption at every level, etc........
How about local schools? Thought the FedGov banned that as well....
On the plus side in Alaska, you do not need a CCW permit to carry - so we got some things right.
Gotta ping this out.
In Oregon it’s legal to open carry without a permit, just concealed carry needs a permit. Which I think is stupid.
