Pickens's New Commodity: Giuliani
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 18, 2007 | LAURIE P. COHEN

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:05:10 PM PDT by FairOpinion

The News: Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens Jr. emerges as a leading fund raiser for Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani.

The Upshot: Mr. Giuliani so far has raised more money in this key state than all Democratic and Republican presidential candidates.

T. Boone Pickens Jr. has made most of his estimated $2.5 billion fortune in the oil market over the past eight years. Now, the Texan is betting big money on a bull market in another commodity: the presidential candidacy of Rudy Giuliani.

The 78-year-old hedge-fund manager and former corporate raider says he has raised more than $500,000 for Mr. Giuliani's campaign.

Mr. Pickens says he first met Mr. Giuliani at the taping of a television show in 1987. But he didn't see him again until 2001, when, as New York City's mayor, Mr. Giuliani welcomed him to his office after Mr. Pickens made a $1 million personal donation to the Twin Towers Fund that helped families of firefighters and police officers killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center attack.

Impressed by Mr. Giuliani's handling of the attack, Mr. Pickens says he got to know Mr. Giuliani better over dinner at the home of Mr. Bailey in April 2005. Mr. Pickens says he asked Mr. Giuliani then whether he would consider a presidential run. "He said his business was going well and he wasn't sure," Mr. Pickens recalls.

Mr. Pickens backed President Bush in the 2004 election. ... he did contribute $3 million to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and its controversial advertising campaign attacking the Vietnam War record of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic nominee.

"Stylistically, Texans like the Giuliani swagger," says Republican political consultant Roger Stone. "He's a tough guy, and Texans like tough guys."

Not near as smart as Fred Smith (Fed Ex) who has endorsed McCain. Now that is really scary!

I will not vote for either period!

Well said. I have been pissing off RINO Freepers for months, and will continue to do so with a great deal of Glee and Enthusiasm.

Why vote for Rudy when you can have all the cake and eat it too?

You RINO Republicans are just weak, shaking like dogs sh_____ing razor blades.

Get behind a conservative Republican candidate and support him, and stop talking Rudy Trash.

Rudy is a goner as far as Free Republic is concerned, so if you have to caterwaul about Rudy, go to DU and do it there.

Rooty Rooters incessantly fawn over, and flack, this flawed candidate. No matter how hard we resist, the Rooters want to inflict Rooty on the rest of us.

The Rooters show signs of being victims of Stockholm Syndrome-——a psychological disturbance found among hostages.

Stockholm Syndrome is characterized by unwarranted feelings of loyalty to abusive captors.

Sap-happy Rooters ignore the obvious, succumbing to a manufactured kindness by their captor to keep them in his power.

Would explain the airheaded rationalization of Rooty’s killing of the unborn on the taxpayer’s dime. Looking past Rooty’s gun-grabbing, gay worship, draft-dodging. Ignoring his serial marriages, and public adultery.

It is very hard to -not notice- how Rooty rooters are more impressed by people that are known, and unknown Rooty backers, more than they are about Rootys liberal character and public immoral lifestyle.

Rooty is showing he has no principle to stand on, and that he is nothing more than a sock puppet for rich old men.

No real conservative could vote for, and support a candidate like Rooty.

Nope. Neither Hitlery nor Rootie get the nomination. But if they did, I’d rather fight the other team than my own. Bye-bye Rooty, never will I vote for him.

“Don`t vote for Rudy if you can`t. That`s your choice. Just don`t whine when Hillorat , excuse me, President Hillorat, repeals the Hyde Amendment and becomes Sarah Brady`s best friend.”

Were you born yesterday?

Rudy is already Brady’s best bud.

I’m another Texan and maybe billionaire Texans love Rudy, but I think he is a little too much of a slick politician for your normal every day Texan.

Is T. Boone on fire yet?

He’s been begging for someone to piss on him for years.

LOL! I share your sentiment for Boone.

Even though I think Rudy is our best bet to retain the presidency.

Circumstances surrounding school massacres are on everyone’s mind. In the Virginia Tech incident, the shooter was known to be disturbed, and had exhibited behavior outside of the norm, behavior that was well-known and documented.

How did they deal with it?

Cho was shuttled hither and fro into the “counseling” system.

Clearly, these “systems” are all process and no content.

The process exhibits a scary “humanism fortified by political correctness” that fails to differentiate (and penalize) wrong behavior from right behavior.

The “process” is more interested in protecting the self-esteem of disturbed individuals rather than concentrating on protecting the culture (and innocent victims) against these individuals.

Sounds a lot like our current political system.

Yes, and you can be very proud of chasing everyone away from FR:

Political sites of all ideologies across the Internet have seen reduced traffic. The amount of liberal/moderate freepers who went to start their own site is minuscule in the grand scheme of things.

....The invite list for the party of 250 included diet entrepreneur Jenny Craig, San Diego Chargers football team owner Dean Spanos and former Reagan administration officials. Mr. Littlefair, the Pickens' business partner who co-hosted the event, says $320,000 was raised that night.

Bump!

Why should I pick Rudy over a Conservative?

Thanks for telling us that Hillorat can`t win the nomination and that Richardson, with his endorsement from the NRA, will. Didn`t know the NRA was that important in Rat Politics.
