Tech killer was 'obsessed' with girl who had new boyfriend (New info)
Timed of London ^ | 4/17/2007

Posted on 04/17/2007 12:41:47 PM PDT by Rutles4Ever

Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.

The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.

Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”

Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.

”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.

She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”

Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.

Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.

It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.

Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.

“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”

On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”

Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”

Just google Emily Facebook. It’s like the fifth or sixth entry down from the top.

You need to back away from this thread, IMHO.

If you decide not to do so, as is your right, I will enjoy your richly deserved zotting.

re: Folks have a right to engage in social interaction)))

Who's talking about rights? I'm talking about a bad habit people--young people, esp--have gotten into. It's a kind of recklessness. A right to be reckless? Sure.

Like I said, I really hate this internet habit that people have started, being reckless with their own privacy.

On who...you are the deranged young man?

Listen, your statement clearly indicates that you are looking for what caused this slaughter. A deranged young man did. Period. ANYTHING could have set him off. To look to the victims for an explanation is a denial of the responsibility of the gunman.

It is EXACTLY the same thing as asking the US “Why did those Al Quaeda Islamists go off on you?” Perfection is not required for one to be the victim of evil. If it was, we would all be completely responsible for whatever happens to us. Most of the time we are, but there are times when we are not.

Oops! That first “are” should be an “or.”

Yikes. Sorry.

"Who's talking about rights?

I am. They have a right to post their pics and notes w/o being bothered.

"I'm talking about a bad habit people--young people, esp--have gotten into. It's a kind of recklessness."

It's only wreckless if one's in the spy business, in some witness protection program, or undercover. Most folks don't want to live life in hiding.

think the killer stalked her he never dated her - never was her girlfriend.

You know this as fact?

I will look for the story for the link but I read somewhere earlier that Emily's new boyfriend had just dropped her off at her dorm when Cho found her at her room. Her Myface page talked of her new boyfriend and it wasn't Cho.

I guess I meant Facebook.

Update: Mary K e-mails to say that someone who appears to have been friends with Emily Hilscher (judging from the candid photos they have access to) has posted a message on Facebook denying that Hilscher was involved with Cho in any way. I’d bet anything she’s right. Follow the link and scroll down for the screencap.

The post is right. Everyone has commented the same. All the notes about Cho, said he had no friends, because of his own doing. Even his room mate was unable to get him to talk, or give more than one word answers.

If one other person in that dorm would have had a concealed handgun permit (like they do in Texas) and a loaded gun, when the perp busted in, the number of dead would have been a lot smaller.

How absurd. There is a wide gulf between posting one's pretty face (and a charming bio!), name on the internet and hiding--

And yes, you're the one talking about rights. It's your issue, not mine. You addressed your post to me as if *I* was talking about rights, when I was commenting on this alarming practice of "advertising" one's self online. They has the right to be reckless. I wish they would stop, but that's not the same as passing a law.

I don't know the extent of what Emily H posted about herself--but I wish young people would stop posting personal biographies that a large population (frequently it includes an entire campus) can view.

Which is why we need the UN to control the internet starting in 2009.

I don’t think it is at all out of the rhelm of imagination that he was besotted with her and she hardly knew he existed. His mind was pretty twisted (from reading the manuscript he wrote). I think digging into this girl is pretty twisted myself, since she was nothing but a young college student just beginning to live life. She didn’t ask to be murdered by this slime.
