One possible source of the gunman's reference to "Ismail Ax" on inside of his arm is... James Fenimore Cooper's The Prairie. Character Ishmael Bush had an axe. "And the axe, which created and transformed through destruction, clears the figurative way for the deflowering of the New World."
The axe is apparently both literal and symbolic, and references are made about the character's having moved from the east to the west, creating change through the destruction (using the axe), and the like. Just a possibility, esp. for someone who was an English major?
Is there a reason for being such an ass?
So, what your saying is that you have the right to free speech and opinion but I do not? That’s awful left-wing, don’t you think?
What font? Any link/picture?
Check out this guys “one act play”, a demented third grader could have fashioned a more compelling drama, this guy was an English Major but barely literate. Mr. Cooper would have been way over his head.
That chant is getting REALLY tiresome for those of us WITH a brain.
The grip of dummies thought perhaps this gentlemaen happened to be the shooter....go snort some more Jack Daniels...
If I decided to change my Christian name to a muslim name then I would have some explaining to do to my parents. I’m sure they would wonder who influenced my decision to make such a move. Must be the Amish people’s fault.
No, not the Ishmael in Melville.
Cho was referring to the wild woodsman Ishmael Bush and his sons the Bush boys, in James Fenimore Cooper’s novel THE PRAIRIE.
Read this for the reference to the axe - - http://external.oneonta.edu/cooper/articles/suny/2001suny-pikus.html
However, Cho did use a variant spelling of the name, an Islamic one. Interesting. Is the reference to a character surnamed “Bush” a coincidence? Is the “ax” or “axe” vengeance, cleansing, rage, violence, murder??? Who knows what he might have been thinking? Psychologists may ponder this for years to come...
You didn’t exactly make it hard...
In other words...dont say anything halfway intelligent and everything'll be alright [at least on this thread].
I am thinking Ismail Ax was his screen name on some website or connected with Islam or both. Wonder what was on his computer??

Hmmmmm, that reminds me... sushi for lunch???
"think he got involved somehow with a local mosque."
Based on what, dummy?
Everyone is “reaching”
Nobody will find a “root cause”
Asking “why” is BS and will cost millions
The VT Prez and VT police chief (of unarmed meter maids!) lobbied the VA State Legislature to kill any “carry” for VT students
They repeatedly lied and spun doing CYA-TV yesterday
No if you want to debate then debate the questions. If you want to look down your very long nose with your PC indignation go somewhere else. There are plenty of PC boards that will not offend you or anyone else in the least with their nonspecualtion.

>I write plays for a hobby, so I thought I’d take a look at what he did. Call it a sick fascination, but I was curious.....Beginning playwrights (especially young ones) nearly always have a character based on themselves.<
Maybe. I’ve been writing since I was a sophomore in high school, and I’ve never based a character on myself. Creative writing requires imagination, empathy, acute senses, a love of words, a dose of mysticism, vision, and a story to tell. It doesn’t necessarily follow that the shooter had actually been a victim. He could have based his play on a situation he’d heard about in the news, which intrigued him. He was no kid.
It has to be a Muslim. Everyone says so. Muslims are the only ones out to get us. Hello. How about a young man with mental problems, much like every other school shooting which has happened. I am very aware of Muslims and the problems they might cause. I don’t think this is one of them. But who am I to take the wind out of anyones sails? Fly at er.
