Killer's Note: 'You Caused Me to Do This'
ABC News ^ | 4/17/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:51:27 AM PDT by areafiftyone

April 17, 2007 — Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.

Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.

Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.

Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.

Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

In lit,
several.

Again, the kid was insane and an English Lit major. As much as it will pain some here who want more, I’m betting that the story begins and ends inside a damaged mind.

“We’ll get bits and pieces and the Ismail reference will ultimately be dismissed as a nod to “Moby Dick”...We’ve seen this movie before.
Yeah. Heathers.”

Then it would be “eskimo.”

It can be Ismail A x, where the x is like a dot and A may refer to Ahmad or Ali or another muslim name that starts with an A.

C’mon kids, this is DU-style thinking. We don’t even know if he was a convert, much less owned a Koran.

Why are you so against exploring that angle of the story? In a post 9/11 world we would be negligent not to.

Yeah, but it was reported that the guns had their serial numbers filed off. If this is true and he truely is legit; why did he have to buy alleged guns that were not?

The left and the Dem’s have convinced this person he is (was) a victim. Before this is over the press and the Dem’s will tell us just that.

seemed wierd to me to, but if he was not planing on suicide and didn’t want to have a weapon that identifies him that could be logical and maybe the suicide decision after he figures he was ID’ed after the first shooting.

I have read in several news stories that he came here as a child with this parents and grew up in Northern Virginia; that he is a legal permanent resident.

Still can't rule out the possibility that he's an American jihadi convert.

Because sometimes in life, the truth is there isn’t anything to blame.

In this case, you have an insane man. No more, no less.

Look for monsters under the bed, but it won’t bring back the dead.

Are you kidding me? This is Free Republic. The merest whisper of a tenuous kinda sorta rumored connection to Islam (booga booga) is like chumming the waters during Shark Week.

By that logic, you can't rule out the possibility that he's pissed off about Ruby Ridge, either.

Maybe....its not usual for questions to go unanswered after something like this. A bunch of unanswered ones remain from Columbine for example.

Heck, there are unanswered questions from the ‘tower shooter’ down in Texas back in the 1960’s to this day.

I found dozens of Islamic sites that use the name Ismail and Ishmael interchangeably.

The guy had it written on his arm in red ink...definitely a weirdo, but the link to Islam is pretty evident, IMHO.

I’m not saying he was anything more than a lone whacko, but I do believe he was influenced by Islam. As I said in another post, what “normal” college student uses the words “charlatans” and “debauchery.”

Good points all. He's been here long enough to have become a freelance jihadi. For anti-social types, Islam provides the rationale for mass murder.
