Is Sudden Jihad Syndrome now going to be the cool thing for misfit kids who want to commit mass suicide?

<< He railed against rich kids and something about a corrupt culture. Signed the note: Ismail X >>

Perhaps he saw himself as a modern-day “Malcolm X” fighting against the “injustices” of American society, but with a sort of jihadi spin to it.

Here's some more details about him: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The South Korean gunman who killed 32 people and himself at Virginia Tech university had lived legally in the United States with his parents for 14 years, a U.S. immigration official said on Tuesday. ADVERTISEMENT <a href="http://uk.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=12utmpq4u/M=200076569.201344101.202628100.200222684/D=ukie_news/S=2022107307:LREC/Y=UKIE/EXP=1176912870/A=200553121/R=0/id=flashclicks/SIG=1389luvuc/*http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aqt_e81ZH.8TrWyq.MYrgxxJBgx.?qid=20060929113444AAg6khO"><img src="http://eur.a1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/a/eu/any/answerslrec300x250bloyawnocto6uk.gif" width=300 height=250 border=0></a> Cho Seung-Hui, 23, moved to the United States in September 1992 and lived in Centreville, Virginia, said Chris Bentley, a spokesman with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Cho, a student of English literature at the university, was identified by police as the gunman responsible for Monday's killings -- the worst shooting rampage in U.S. history. As a resident alien, commonly known as a green-card holder, Cho could live and work indefinitely in the United States, although he would not be able to vote or obtain a U.S. passport, Bentley said. Bentley declined to release information about Cho's parents, citing privacy laws. Cho's family could not be reached for comment. Fox News reported that federal agents had searched the Cho home in Centreville. The South Korean government said it was concerned about a possible backlash against South Koreans in the United States after the shooting. "We are working closely with our diplomatic missions and local Korean residents' associations in anticipation of any situation that may arise," a foreign ministry official said by telephone. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20070417/twl-uk-usa-crime-shooting-cho-b69588a.html

Wild ass speculation belo ...

I wonder if the victim choice was racially motivated. I’ve read one article saying he looked into several classrooms and passed them by. He ended up going into foreign language classes. Maybe the engineering rooms he looked into were too filled with other asians?

Kind of like th backlash in S. Korea after those 2 girls were accidentally run over by a US military vehicle?

I think it was actually "Ismail Ax". I am looking into now. I think Ismail is probably from unix, although I would let someone with more familiarity with unix answer.

I found "Ismail Ax" on two websites. One was for a computer science department project where "Ismail Ax" was an english tag in a computer program.

The other place was on a French blog from May 29, 2006. The blogger identifies himself as a member of the "Ax Crew" (I am looking into that now - each member apparently picks a name nd adds Ax to it. For example, the blogger's name is narcissik-ax ) and there is a photo where person is (translated to english from French) identified as "Ismail Ax". He doesn't look anything like the shooter.

Here is a link to the blog.

...ISMAIL X

Glad you heard it too. I thought I was crazy. It certainly makes more sense, given the list of grievances the media is talking about . . . "rich kids and debauchery". While crazy people come in all races, religions and nationalities, a converted (either in a mosque or on line) Muslim makes more sense than a permanent resident, Korean, English major.

Here’s the thing with that:

He had chains, over 150 rounds of 9mm ammo, over $1200 worth of handguns, possibly a vest.

Heat of the moment crimes are typically done with a single loaded gun, and maybe the guy empties the mag on both people.

Even if there was a note, you don’t plan a ‘heat of the moment’ type crime.

This guy was a psychopath. I actually hope that’s all it is, because the way this was executed was brilliant if staged.

1. Create a diversion guaranteed to draw the bulk of VT’s security force to one area of the campus.
2. Make it look like a ‘standard’ crime scene, but not something that would warrant an evacuation of the campus.
3. Enter another building on campus, chain the doors, and execute as many innocent people as you can, carrying at least a couple hundred rounds of ammo already loaded into clips, with vest, two pistols, and timed such that classes would be in session.

I hope this guy is a psychopath, and working alone.

So what happened to the chinese national, who didn’t have any fingerprints on file? Lone gunman, or John Doe #3 who just disappears....

Of course the murder of 33 people is newsworthy. My point is that compared to the deaths of 41K people annually, this incident is blown way out of proportion, for political purposes of gun control.

See my post #270, above, for what I found on that so far. My research for "Ax crew" has found several uses. It appears to be part of D&D type muds but also part of the Anime scene. It almost appears to some sort of vernacular. The reason Ax Crew is relevant is because I was able to find an example where an "Ax Crew" create names for themselves ending in "Ax", including an "Ismail Ax". I believe "Ismail" is from Unix.

So, Ismail Ax could mean he was into D&D, was into Anime [the one reference I found was for a Vampire anime, or some other Ax Crew of unknown description.

“I just corrected to you..it was Ismail X.

Like you said, he railed against rich kids and something about the “debauchery” of this culture or something to that effect. The Ismail X is what I am the most curious about. What could that mean? As in Ismail, the son of Abraham?

Well, how about the actions of the president? You have a first shooting incident where people are killed. do you shut down your campus? No...you keep classes running for two more hours, and then the SAME guy goes to his dorm, reloads, writes a “disturbing” note, and then goes out and kills 31 more students. Can you say “Prosecute the President?” If this is all true, how can he even THINK abuot attending ANY memorial events! HE FRIGGIN FAILED AND KIDS DIED!!!! I’ll hold my opinion on the police department for now.
