Gay rodeo shows South Florida how West was fun

Davie -- They wore Wrangler jeans and Stetson hats. Some sported decorative belt buckles to boast of former rodeo triumphs.
But at Saturday's Sunshine Stampede, some of the spectators and participants also waved a symbol not typically associated with rodeos -- the rainbow flag.
What's a gay rodeo without a little color?
Thousands of people converged on the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds for the state's second gay rodeo, hosted by the Florida Gay Rodeo Association. The Florida group is one of the newest members of the International Gay Rodeo Association, which has more than 4,500 members in 33 associations throughout the United States and Canada.
The amateur association was established to promote gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Western lifestyles, not necessarily to be a statement against traditional rodeos, according to organizers.
Throughout the day, about 120 contestants, gay and straight, competed in classic rodeo events, like calf roping and bull riding, and more offbeat contests, like goat dressing and steer decorating. They will continue the competition today, with hopes of winning a belt buckle, the rodeo's grand prize, and accumulating points toward the national championship.
Roberto Lopez and Roy Faircloth, of Fort Lauderdale, competed Saturday for the second time in the goat-dressing contest. The two worked to get a pair of white jockey-style underwear over a goat's rear hooves.
"It's just fun," said Lopez, 35. "We feel accepted here, like everyone is a comrade."
Jason Smith likened the ambience of the event to a country song. The 40-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident sat in the bleachers with friends Jim Durhan and Larry Gureski, also of Fort Lauderdale.
"There's so much emotion and passion," Smith said. "It's about regular, down-to-earth people, doing what they love."

It shouldn't take too long before these freaks progress into having homosexual sex with dead animals. This will of course become yet another civil rights/constituency group.
EW!
What a FREAK show!
Animals had better be on guard ... if humans can’t get it right on what gender to connect to ... animals are fair game too!!!
I wonder just how many homosexuals endorse this sort of thing. Quite frankly, the ones I know see themselves as gay...not queer.
“It’s just fun,” said Lopez, 35. “We feel accepted here, like everyone is a comrade.”
Yes, bestiality is already here.
The first step toward acceptance is LAUGHING at it. Once you laugh at it then it’s no big deal and things progress from there. What’s even more fun for these freaks is having HETEROSEXUAL join in on the laughter and charm them into thinking homosexuals are really “okay”, “fun” loving people. People fall for this ALL THE TIME.
Ahem,
gay = queer
There is nothing NORMAL about being a homosexual.

_______________
Says a lot about the gay folks you know. On the other hand, the gays/lesbians I have known over the years have been, for the most part, okay and fun loving people, as much as anyone else.
Of course, none of them were trying to put tighty whities on a goat :)
Queer and gay used to be interchangeable terms. I would say that is less the case today. Queer is associated with pervert more than gay.
“Yippie-ki-oh-K-Y...”
No, strike that...
Ride that cowboy!
There was a Gay Rodeo held last year in Odessa, Texas. Get ready, this is going to become more common.
They like those saddle horns.
Lots of Good Ole Boys at the REAL Rodeo there. Just surprised they could pull off such a thing there, but hey, money is money I guess.
Who’s to say that’s not a marriage in their eyes? What, do you want to discriminate?
Is there nothing they're not passionate about?
I wonder what the record is for riding a bidet?
I'll attempt a wild guess or two; the Ten Commandments, going to church on Sunday, getting lucky with a woman.....
