UN-fortunately a school is a prohibited zone in VA. The gun has to be unloaded and left in a car.
In the Texas Tower shooting the shooter was eventually stopped from shooting anymore because hunters with their rifles in the trunks of their cars kept him pinned down until the cops got rifles from local gun stores.

Can you imagine if the students had the right to be in a college gun club, and also carry their guns in a brief case or back pack. Someone may have stopped the killing a whole lot earlier.
Quick correction - it was the North Hollywood shooting where the cops got rifles from local gun stores. The Tower shooting incident was where the civilian riflemen kept the lunatic pinned down until two policemen and one shotgun-carrying civilian could get up to the top of the tower and shoot Whitman at close range.
