The World Bank released its files in the case of President Paul Wolfowitz's ethics on Friday, and what a revealing download it is. On the evidence in these 109 pages, it is clearer than ever that this flap is a political hit based on highly selective leaks to a willfully gullible press corps.

"They especially dislike his anticorruption campaign, as do his opponents in the staff union and such elites of the global poverty industry as Nancy Birdsall of the Center for Global Development. They prefer the status quo that holds them accountable only for how much money they lend, not how much they actually help the poor."

The "anti-coruption campaign" related to Wolfowitz was referring to member countries, not the WB bureaucracy. Wolfowitz was seen a US proxy to place a kind means test upon countries securing loans. This angered those who think aid should be given freely without politicization (especially those favoring the US war effort).

“Mr. Wolfowitz’s only real mistake was in assuming that everyone else was acting in good faith.”

Like us in Iraq, yo?

The socialist "mainstream" Democrat newsrooms are far more than simply "gullible" - - they are blind, mindless mice sniffing around for whatever cheese their party will throw them. In this case, they were thrown some "leaks". They took the cheese and ran right into a mousetrap.

Wow. Another example of why it is foolish to jump to conclusions based on initial press reports. It also renews my faith in Wolfowitz’s integrity and character. I hope he continues to refuse to resign.

Mr. Wolfowitz's only real mistake was in assuming that everyone else was acting in good faith. Maybe the real blind, mindless mice are those on the right who make this same mistake every time they deal with the socialists/Democrats. Conservative Republicans seem to be the ones who are always taking the cheese and running right into the mousetrap.

I agree. Unfortunately, decent folks are sometimes forced to deal with the socialist Democrats, and that means climbing into their foul, stinking toilet of duplicity and corruption. You would think people would better prepare themselves by now.
