Paul Wolfowitz was fighting a rearguard action to save his career as president of the World Bank on Sunday as he received support from the White House and African ministers while divisions emerged among European countries over his future.

A senior European official told the Financial Times that unless the White House withdrew its support, European countries were not sufficiently united to succeed in an immediate attempt to force Mr Wolfowitz’s removal.

But continuing criticism over Mr Wolfowitz’s personal involvement in securing a big pay hike for a Bank official with whom he was romantically involved, might undermine his long-term survival chances, the official added.

Buried headline - the European powers, led by Spain and France, have backed off from demanding Paul's head. He's going to keep his job, weaker than a kitten and easier to manipulate than a lovestruck boyfriend. Not a good outcome.

Conservatives need to demand his removal. How the hell can we keep placing ourselves in postions like this? Who is giving people the idea that they can abandon basic principles of conduct and call yourself an American Conservative? Principles matter, damnit.

Stupid $#@&*^%!!!.

If Wolfowitz was going to criticize corruption in corrupt third world governments, he and his girl friend should have worked for different employers. He should have thought with his brain, not...

"Paul Wolfowitz was fighting a rearguard action to save his career" Truer words have not been written - of course, he is guarding his rear, and trying to cover it.

Wolfowitz used his position at the World Bank to shower tax dollars on his concubine. He should be fired.

Ummmmmmmm, yeah he should.

If i did this at my job I’d never work in the same industry again, but he get’s to stay and embarass not only himself, but his president and oh yeah, the other 300 million citizens he represents...(cue Montgomery Burns smarmiest voice here)...Excellent...

sigh...when will our political leaders call a spade a spade when they see it and stop the overt corruption? WHEN!!??!!

There, i feel better...thanks for reading...cheers!
