No chance to tell his side (Collin Finnnerty also Left Lacrosse Party before Non-Rape)
Newsday ^ | 4/13/07 | BART JONES

Collin Finnerty never got the chance to tell his side of the story to Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong, the DA's prosecutors or the Durham police, Finnerty said yesterday in his first interview since being absolved of all charges in the Duke lacrosse rape case.

They never asked for it, he said.

While the nation debated for nearly a year whether he and two other Duke lacrosse players raped a stripper hired for a team party, none of those law enforcement officials interviewed the Garden City man. In fact, Nifong said early on in the probe that the players weren't cooperating.

Finnerty said that what he would have told them is that he left the party at the house on North Buchanan Boulevard minutes after the two exotic dancers arrived on March 14, 2006, and that he was not even present when the accuser reported the attack took place.

"We kind of got out of there quickly," Finnerty said. "It wasn't possible that we were there when she is saying there was a crime...."

Finnerty said that after he left the party he bought some food, went back to his campus dorm, and then called one of his sisters on his cell phone. He said records back up his account.

Next time they need some criminal defendants, maybe Nifong & Company should just throw a dart at the phone book.

Here’s hoping the family sues and sues and sues: Nifong, the police, and the 88 morons on the faculty who helped form the lynch mob.

".............the lanky 20-year-old Chaminade graduate said in the lobby of a $450-a-night hotel near Raleigh, where he and his family stayed this week."

This puke at Newsday is STILL throwing darts at the "rich white boys who raped that nappy headed ho..

Being "rich" is the only thing that saved them from Nifong, the black racists in Durham, the lunatics on the faculty and administration at Duke and the incompetents on the Durham Police Force.

Go back and read the cut article in its full.

Someone, anyone, PLEASE tell me what bearing the fact the family stayed in a hotel that was 450/night and where he went to high school had ANYTHING to do with the case!

My God! His family is wealthy! He went to a private school! He is innocent! (Oh wait, that is not that important, now is it?)

That’s a natural enough reaction, but there is a part of me that wishes they wouldn’t get involved in a lot of civil suits. I would like to see Duke reach out to this kid and encourage him to come back, join his teammates and classmates, and graduate from Duke. I have the feeling that could give peace of mind and closure all around. These guys need a return to normalcy, not more media circus.

Hadn’t heard those details yet. I think he was holding a wildcard in case this thing went to court. Good for him holding back since Nifong wasn’t interested anyway. Nifong was only interested in a mere 15000 annual boost in retirement income. Sad and pathetic.

That's almost as much as a basic room at the Waldorf! In Raleigh? I find that very hard to believe. Maybe it's a typo.

the 88 morons on the faculty who helped form the lynch mob.

They commented on a public news item. They did nothing illegal, even if it was distasteful and inappropriate.

I can see where you're coming from, but they do need to recover their legal expenses, plus, part of punishment is deterrence, they need to send a message to all who abuse their office and power to gain politically. Everyone feels bad for the Duke Lax players because they were innocent young men who's only crime was to be considered "rich white kids", but what about Tom Delay, the entire Bush administration, Scooter Libby, etc.? Nifong just did what the rest of the Democrats do, accuse anyone associated with the right of a crime and then ruin their lives so they can gain political points.

Here's to hoping Nifong is just the beginning of a long line of Democrats to fall for abusing their office.

Probably the price of the most expensive multi-room penthouse suite in the hotel.

Isn’t there a crime here by the reporters, editors and publishers who convicted these youths in the “court of public opinion”?

If it weren’t for the lefties in the media, they would have been all over Nifong for not doing his job properly and demanding accountability from the Court. It didn’t happen.

I think those in the media who sucked up to Nifong should be sued as well.

Maybe not in a court of criminal law, but in civil court I think they opened up a bunch of liability to the school. One of these morons is already under a lawsuit for failing a lacrosse player out of spite.

Nifong didn’t make a mistake. He actively, deliberately, definitely and purposely set out to destroy 3 innocent men, knowing that feminazis and race-haters would vote for him. He should not just lose his job. He should pay every cent that he has to the men, then go to jail.

Probably the price of the most expensive multi-room penthouse suite in the hotel.

A real possibility--after all there are five kids in the family. But if this is the explanation, this sure is sleazy reporting. If a Days Inn has a single $250/night suite, an honest reporter would not describe the place as a $250/night hotel.

The wife of Dr Goodnight of SAS just built a top end lxury hotel in Cary, outside of Raleigh.

http://www.theumstead.com/

Yes. It is very expensive for a suite. That said, you get what you pay for and if $450 isn’t an issue then I have no problem with it.

Hell, I like to stay at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs and it isn’t cheap. Sorry, but a Radisson doesn’t compare.

Bottom-line though is obviously people think that the wealthy should go to prison even if they committed no crime.
