Canadian Green Party Candidate thinks 9/11 was "Beautiful"

Green candidate stands by remarks praising 9/11 'Beautiful' Katie Rook, National Post Published: Friday, April 13, 2007 A federal Green party candidate in Vancouver-Kingsway is standing behind a controversial editorial he wrote more than four years ago in which he describes the falling of the World Trade Center twin towers as "beautiful."

The editorial, entitled, A Revolting Confession, was first published on Nov. 28, 2002 in an alternative newspaper, The Republic of East Vancouver, which Kevin Potvin founded.

"When I saw the first tower cascade down into that enormous plume of dust and paper, there was a little voice inside me that said, 'Yeah!' When the second tower came down the same way, that little voice said, 'Beautiful!' When the visage of the Pentagon appeared on the TV with a gaping and smoking hole in its side, that little voice had nearly taken me over, and I felt an urge to pump my fist in the air," Mr. Potvin wrote in the editorial.

Printer friendly Font: ****The 44-year-old bookstore owner, who ran for municipal office in Vancouver in 2005, said he at first withheld the editorial, publishing it only after he was approached by others who felt the same way.

"This is a revolting confession," he wrote. "But it's what happened."

He continued: "I know lots of people were killed. But then again, I see lots of people getting killed whenever I turn the TV news on, and frankly, it doesn't really get to me any more....

"Let's face facts. If the news on the morning of September 11 was that 3,000 Tanzanians or Burmese had been killed, they wouldn't have broken in on regularly scheduled programming, or cancelled football games, and there'd be no conversation about it the next day."

Mr. Potvin said in a telephone interview last night that he is now skeptical that the events of 9/11 were entirely the work of terrorists.

"I have no idea what happened on that day, but it's certainly not the story that Washington propagates."

Mr. Potvin, who was recently acclaimed as a Green party candidate, is today meeting with voters to discuss "9/11 truth and its implications for Canadian foreign policy" at a downtown Vancouver cafe.

The Green party could not be reached for comment last night.

I'm so sick of this uninformed, leftist argument. Does anyone else think the US and its allies should make 9/11 Conspiracy or Approval a crime like Germany and Austria have done with Holocaust Denial? There doesn't seem to be a way to stop it through propagating truth and science since they only ignore the proven facts on the issue. Their numbers are 30% and rising. What happens when they are 40, 50 or 60% of society?

Kevin Potvin, Green Party candidate in Vancouver - the same Green party that the Liberal Party of Canada is currently collaborating with to defeat the Conservatives in the next election. Spread the word.

Green party? Green as the colour of Islam, I guess.

I hope the “Green candidate” suffers a slow and cruel death.

Since he’s from the Green Party, you’d at least expect him to decry the pollution from 9/11.

Exactly. He should be protesting outside Osama’s cave right now for letting all that jet fuel burn needlessly adding to global warming. He’s got other goals other than environmentalism though.

He’s got other goals other than environmentalism though.

As Canada's current Prime Minister is entirely aware of, detailed in a 2003 essay in Christian Coalition International.

...the agenda of the modern Left. Its system of moral relativism, moral neutrality and moral equivalency is beginning to dominate its intellectual debate and public-policy objectives.
.
The clearest recent evidence of this phenomenon is seen in international affairs in the emerging post-Cold-War world - most obviously in the response of modern liberals to the war on terrorism. There is no doubt about the technical capacity of our society to fight this war. What is evident is the lack of desire of the modern liberals to fight, and even more, the striking hope on the Left that we actually lose.
.
Conservatives need to reassess our understanding of the modern Left. It has moved beyond old socialistic morality or even moral relativism to something much darker. It has become a moral nihilism - the rejection of any tradition or convention of morality, a post-Marxism with deep resentments, even hatreds of the norms of free and democratic western civilization.
.
This descent into nihilism should not be surprising because moral relativism simply cannot be sustained as a guiding philosophy. It explains the lack of moral censure on personal foibles of all kinds, extenuating even criminal behaviour with moral outrage at bourgeois society, which is then tangentially blamed for deviant behaviour.
.
Conservatives have focused on the inconsistency in all of this. Yet it is actually disturbingly consistent. It is a rebellion against all forms of social norm and moral tradition in every aspect of life. The logical end of this thinking is the actual banning of conservative views, which some legislators and "rights" commissions openly contemplate.

I just wish that this person would tell us more about the possible reasons why he was so happy.
It is educational. Or perhaps he can get his therapist to explain it to us.

Envy?
Feeling of helplessness as a "zero" on the world stage?
A desire to blame somebody, anybody, about his sorry lot in life?
A terminal case of socialism?
A serious case of I am a victim and it's all Bush's and the US's fault?

What drives this particular form of insanity?

I can't help thinking of all the horrible natural catastrophes that routinely afflict muslim countries (the only group I could ever imagine feeling happy about suffering calamities), and not once, even for an instant, have I ever felt like dancing, pumping my fist in the air or otherwise celebrating.

I believe that is the normal human reaction. It takes a special form of insanity from hell to be as warped as this so-called "Green".

[T]here is no Moslem... equivalent to the history of violent evangelism that exists in Christianity's history.
-Kevin Potvin

I think we can file this under "Don't Know Much About History."

And wait a second. Here he thinks 9/11 was a "legitimate act of war". Well, which was it? An "act of war" by the poor oppressed, "reasonable" Islamic zealots, or a false flag operation conducted by the US Government? It sure as hell can't be both... or can it?

Does anyone know any Canadian tinfoil manufacturers I can invest in?

He continued: "I know lots of people were killed. But then again...."

But then again none of the people killed were Potvin's loved ones, so he simply doesn't care.

".....I see lots of people getting killed whenever I turn the TV news on, and frankly, it doesn't really get to me any more...."

But 9/11 did get to him -- he thoroughly enjoyed it, calling it "beautiful." Does he have similar joyful reactions when he turns on the daily TV news and sees carnage throughout the world? Not a chance. He was specifically celebrating the deaths of Americans.

Frightening part is that his sentiments are shared by countless liberals throughout the Western world.

On the contrary.
Recent history tells us that he is eminently qualified to serve in the Canadian government.

Members of the Canadian government, in the recent past, among other things, have called for the arrest of the Pope and the arrest for war crimes of our American president, George Bush.
