Rice should have stayed out of this. Same for Hillary, Obama, and Corzine.

Completely disagree. She's not 'unqualified' just because she does things you don't like.

And making diplomatic decisions also doesn't make her 'naive.'

Some of us are able to wonder about decisions and question them without making hyperbolic attacks on the one who made them.

I think the SOS is judged by the ability to negotiate results that are in the best interest of the US and the policies of the administration. She has failed at that to a large degree IMO.

Perhaps you just overestimate the power of the SOS to do miracles.

Not accomplishing peace between Israel and Palestine cannot be labeled 'failure' IMO.

btw, this will be my last comment on the subject, because I don't believe this thread is the appropriate thread for its discussion.

I just hate to see movement backwards. But you are right. Wrong thread for this discussion.

Condi is making a very clever and calculating move by this. Imus is a leftist and all his guests are leftist politicians. They’re privately worried about the impact of Imus’s firing on their ‘base’ which is white leftist men. They think it could lose votes for the Democrats. Condi’s piling on is a political statement that drives the point home, further weakening the left. Condi has made a brilliant move in condemning Imus. She’s helping the right.

Did I miss something? She never said she was glad he got fired. She said she was glad there were 'consequences' to his coarse language. I am too, but I'm not glad he got fired.

*************

I read the story a few times, and I think you may have missed something, yes. It appears to me that what happened was that a reporter asked Rice how she felt about Imus being fired. She responded that "yes, she was glad there were consequences. Meaning, yes, she was glad he was fired. I disagree with her, but I give her credit for being honest. She's also a lady, and the language was clearly offensive to her.

See post 42 above...........that isn't what Condi said.

But it sure makes a good headline for Condi bashers, and I'm sure that's what Reuters' goal was in fabricating it.

I don’t know about that, but I agree about the Condi-bashers. I like Condi. Always have.

I agree with you. Her answer was dignified and proper. His language was coarse. There is a great difference between criticizing, or even “complimenting” (what Imus said he was doing) with vulgar language and doing so with decent language. I think most everyone on this board knows the difference, is it too much to expect entertainers to know the difference also?

The headline was designed to get knee jerk negative reactions from unthinking folks who don't bother to read what follows. It obviously worked.

You're too modest. And apparently not observant enough to read what preceeded my thanks to you. Here it is again, FYI:

(CE quoting ohioWfan) Did I miss something?
Well, I did. That the article and the headline were from, ta-da, al-Rooters. Thanks for paying attention for us.

As to my alleged negative, unthinking, knee-jerk reaction, here's what I had to say in my comment (#21) to the post:

Condoleezza Rice ain't no nappy headed ho, and this Imus business is below her pay grade, but if biff is right about how Imus continually attacked her, I say good for her.

I'll stand by that.

Course if it were made about EyeCondi he would have been cutting edge. Because it is about a basketball team he is fired. How many Aunt Jamima cartoons were done about Condi?

Methinks you're too defensive, CE.

I was agreeing with you, not accusing you.

Read again, please. Knee jerkers abound on this thread. You're certainly not one of them.

You said — “What a foul .... ‘song.’ “

Yeah, and if that wasn’t bad enough, just by itself. It really gets worse. I mean, first of all, just the rap song — on its own — with what it’s saying is bad enough.

But, then, you go further and find out that this “rap music” is being played over and over again by these little teen white girls, jumping around, mouthing all the lyrics and thinking it’s great.

That’s another level past the rap song and its words.

And then, it goes further. Not only the song and the words, not only the little teen white girls jumping around mouthing the lyrics, but also — it’s actually happening that way. It actually represents the “state of affairs” out there in that teen world and culture.

So, it’s sort of on three levels, it’s really bad, as bad as it gets. I mean, it’s like “public brainwashing” for the young teens, so that they grow up thinking that this is “how it’s supposed to be” — regardless of what mom and dad say (because mom and dad are from another time and did things differently, but this is what we do).

And when you think about training your kids, when the school systems (and our entire culture, actually) have undermined the parents by taking away all the *basis* for morality (the absolute truth and morals that only come from our Creator God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob of the Bible), saying instead, that we’re only a product of “from the zoo to you” (i.e., just another accident of evolution...). And with the post-modern culture that the young teens are growing up in that says “truth” is only what you make it and your truth is different than someone else’s truth (which also means that the teen’s truth is different than their parent’s truth - and they know it and practice it that way)... there you have the scenario of where they’re at.

It’s no wonder...

Regards,
Star Traveler

What's to explain? Regardless of the circumstances -- and I am no fan of Imus -- Rice is a high government official who just announced that a radio talk show personality should have been fired for stating his opinion on the air. That to me is clearly a totalitarian position. Political correctness, among other totalitarian impulses is going to doom this nation.

I understand that Condi may have been offering a personal opinion, but she is still a government official and thus is almost always "on the record". And I understand that no government action was involved in Imus' termination, but I was commenting on her impulse -- "I don't like it, so it must be eliminated." I don't have time to elaborate right now. If anyone wants to continue, post away. Sorry if my comments offended anyone.

She just said there should have been 'consequences' for what Imus said.

Period.

There is nothing 'totalitarian' about that position...........unless one is 'Mad.'

The government had absolutely nothing to do with any of this.

There are enough real problems with government overreach without your making them up out of whole cloth just to bash Condi, no matter what personal reason you felt the need to do that.

IMO, making ludicrous charges such as you did (and do so very often) diminishes the very real need to deal with serious and actual problems.

In other words, people like you making ridiculous charges, do more harm than good to the conservate cause.
