I was surprised, too.

The rodents have nothing but 2nd and 3rd tier candidates to face Jindal. Personally, I’d like to see Mitch Landrieu vacate the Lt Gov’s office to run against Bobby so we can take that, too.

Should Mitch Landrieu run for Gov., Nagin might regain his sanity and endorse Jindal again.

If Nagin endorses Jindal again, that would greatly enhance Landrieu’s prospects. =8-0

LA-1 is the most Republican in the state.

Good point about Nagin.

We could possibly sweep the Governor races in 2007. Haley’s a lock for re-election. The Bayou state is a likely GOP pickup. KY is a tossup with Anne Northup. Anne will have a tough time convincing rural folks that she’s no urban liberal. However, she’s a smart campaigner.

From what I understand, it’s not entirely a given that Northup will win the nomination. If Fletcher is renominated, the rodents could put up a 150-lb bag of horse manure and it would win. :-(

Kentucky has already elected a woman Governor, Martha Layne Collins, back in 1983, so that works in Northup’s favor.

GO BOBBY!

Amen to that! I eagerly voted for him twice last time (primary and runoff--not twice on the same day!), and eagerly support him this time! I've been a fan of his ever since his stint as director of Health & Hospitals. He's got what it takes. Brains, charisma, and a never-quit philosophy!

Now that Breaux has opted-out, we need to amend the state Constitution (again) to change the term “Citizen” of Louisiana to “permanent resident of Louisiana” for the preceding 5 years in order to qualify for statewide office.

NO MORE CARPETBAGGERS!

Wow. It would have been shocking if he had been up 11 over Breaux, but 30!!!? Again - wow!

Fletcher’s only hope is that Billy Harper splits the vote. Fletcher would have no chance of winning if it was a one on one matchup. He is polling well below 50% - a terrible number for an incumbent governor in his own party. If no one reaches 40% there would be runoff for the primary.

I feel so badly for Fletcher, he’s been f*cked by that little $hitstain AG Stumbo, whose sole mission was to destroy his administration over allegations that wouldn’t get 5 seconds of airtime in the media if it had been a rodent (wanting party loyalists in positions of trust ! Oh, the humanity ! What bull$hit).

For anyone that doesn’t think electing Republicans to important statewide offices like AG and Sec of State, this ought to be a sobering wake-up call. With a GOP AG in KY, Fletcher would be easily coasting to a 2nd term right now, it’s that simple. If we lose the Governorship, let’s hope we take the AG’s open seat and repay the rodent in kind with what Stumbo did to Dr. Fletcher. Fair’s fair.

Some of what Fletcher did was of his own doing, however. He has terrible PR. Moreover, when Secretary of State Trey Grayson merely hinted he might run for governor, Fletcher launched a barrage of personal attacks publicly against Grayson and then calls were made to Grayson’s friends’ employers by Fletcher’s people trying to cause problems for them in their jobs - because they were hosting a fundraiser for Grayson at their home for his re-election as Secretary of State. Senator McConnell and a number of others showed up at the fundraiser to show support for Grayson in response to that outrageous conduct. While I still believe the Stumbo stuff was a witch hunt, it did place a bit of doubt in my mind after what Fletcher did to Grayson - as Fletcher demonstrated he was more than capable of doing what Stumbo accused him of based on what I know was done to Grayson.

No, you’re right to a degree. I think Stumbo’s witch hunts obviously created an air of suspicion and paranoia in Fletcher’s inner circle. With almost everyone in office cutting their ties to him (right now, are there ANY sitting GOP officeholders in the state openly backing him ?), it’s understandable why he would lash out at former allies. It’s just really sad that it has reached this point.

Although not the best example because it’s a bit different, it reminds me of fmr. MT Sen. Conrad Burns. Burns felt it was a personal point of honor for him to run for reelection despite his taint of affiliation with Abramoff. Dr. Fletcher feels the same over the charges made against him, but personal points of honor often run counter to what’s best for the party. To preserve his own dignity and keeping us fully viable for November, I wish he’d withdraw from reelection.
