"...sources tell CBS News that the FDA had tracked at least one suspect batch of wheat gluten into the human food supply, quietly quarantined some products and notified the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention to watch for new patients admitted to hospitals with renal or kidney failure."

This old guy has given up dog food in favor of American beer. Brewers treasure their benefactors. ;-)
I sure hope China isn’t being let off the hook. All I seem to hear is blame of American companies. China must be held accountable.
Something went horribly wrong, and it sounds like it was no accident.
Not quite. We would have to ban all food products that include any ingredient made in China no matter where the food product was finally produced. There is no way for consumers to tell where individual ingredients in a processed food product are obtained by a food manufacturer. Another way would be to prohibit food manufacturers who sell in the American market from buying any of their ingredients from China -- that would certainly throw a wrench in our trading relationship with China! China is not the only problem, however. Our dependence on a massively centralized and highly processed food industry makes us very vulnerable to food contamination problems(either accidental or deliberate).
The best defense for consumers is buy as little processed food as possible and to rely on locally grown foods whenever you can. We desperately need to decentralize and diversify our food supply in this country for national security as well as health reasons.
Licorice: "Oh, no."
Boy, you need to learn more about the increasingly fascist/communist policies of this country - yes, the US.
The communist policy of subsidizing “poor farmers” with federal TAXES is what is making their prices too high to bother buying here.
It’s a welfare state now, where everyone is a “victim” and “helpless”, and everyone is on the teat. Which ultimately makes everyone equally poor. A communist ideal.
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking - we’ll just plant a garden and eat only vegetables we grow because pretty soon the meat and dairy products will be too high to buy and we’ll be too afraid of any grain products for fear of contamination like this to eat it.
I pushed the cart two feet, read the labels and dumped everything from China or containing wheat gluten.
I went home with only two boxes of Thai rice.
“Yeah, thats what Im thinking - well just plant a garden and eat only vegetables we grow because pretty soon the meat and dairy products will be too high to buy and well be too afraid of any grain products for fear of contamination like this to eat it.”
Too high to buy?! But the freeper mantra is the economy is great, and sending our jobs to China is good for us.
Could that be BS?
Silly “scares” like this sure bring liberals out of the woodwork.
Is it serious? Yes. Is there really much of a risk to us all even at this point? No.
I’m lucky to live down the road from a small veggie farm and I’m kind of a prefered customer.

Good advice.
A member of the blame America, first, last and always crowd are you?
Our very own wheat producers are poisoning us, folks. Our only hope for survival is to import all our wheat from Communist China.
I understand Chinese farmers use human waste as fertilizer. BTW, so do Mexican farmers. Sorry to you NAFTA fans, but lettuce from Sonora is not as safe as that from California or Arizona.
“Is it serious? Yes. Is there really much of a risk to us all even at this point? No.”
Sure, not much of a risk. If a few people die... that’s just business. But, if it’s someone you love that dies, you may think the risk was bigger.
Cars? They were still using ox carts when I was there last. And you know what oxen leave behind them, right?
I’m sure there are some Haitian parents who think the risk is pretty big after some 86 children died due to poisonous Chinese cough syrup some years ago.
Time to introduce China to the neutron bomb? Or did Clinton already introduce them to the plans for constructing their own neutron bombs?
