After a fatal crash on the crosstown last month, Fei Ni was held for criminal vehicular homicide.
His bail was set at $200,000 -- nothing to the families of the two women killed when Ni, intoxicated, crossed over and caused a crash. It was certainly not enough when a judge allowed bail to be cut in half and, despite flight concerns, refused to strip Ni of his passport if he made bail.
Now, Ni is in China.
Families of his victims are concerned he won't stand trial for their losses, saying it is not a good example of justice.
Ni isn't breaking any laws unless he misses his first court appearance, which is scheduled for April 20. If he does not appear, a warrant will be issued for Ni's arrest and he will be apprehended the next time he does enter the country.
I'm sure this perp will be back in this country so he can be apprehended. /sarc
“it is not a good example of justice.”
Not a good example of justice, but it’s a good example of the kind of “justice” our courts mete out every day.
Publicly stone the judge in the town square.
Seriously I am astonished that more of these jurists aren’t killed by bereaved family members in cases like this.
If I were on a grand jury I’d refuse to indict.
What’s the big deal? This same judge would likely have sentenced him to 2 years and probation anyway.
I’ll bet whoever stood bail for him isn’t too happy he is in China.
I think these judges do it sometimes knowing the perp will run. The county can avoid the cost of putting them in jail and keep the bail money. They just made $100,000.
Well, then there’s that.....

The question is, when will Fi Nei run for U.S. Senate?
OK but just don’t give the mussies my address.
Call the Dog...
Dog kind of ran off the rails bringing that bail skipper back from Mexico. Don’t know how he would do in China...assuming he can/could stay out of jail (Mexican and/or Chinese). Needless to say, he would stick out like a sore thumb.
Nah, LA is definitely the natural environment for the Dog.
