The duration and distance were short, but in those dizzying seconds and feet, Gov. Jon Corzine suffered injuries serious enough to land him in intensive care with a breathing tube down his throat and a doctor declaring him lucky to be alive. The 60-year-old governor underwent about two hours of surgery last night to repair multiple broken bones, including 12 ribs and a femur that protruded through the skin of his thigh following a car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township.
With two of his adult children by his beside, Corzine, sedated and on intravenous painkillers, remains in intensive care in Cooper University Hospital in Camden this morning. He required seven pints of blood, officials said, and is using a breathing tube to ease his respiration with the broken ribs, and a broken breastbone.
The governor also suffered a broken collarbone and lower back bone and a flap-like cut on his skull, which was a plastic surgeon stitched back together.
Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said the governor did not appear to have suffered brain or spinal cord damage.

I don’t think he’d have compartment syndrome if he had an open fracture, because the fascia would be “opened” by the bone sticking through it. At least that’s what I’m thinking. Lots of blood loss could lead to some tissue, muscle, etc., death, which would have to be cleaned out regularly.
Our press now reads like Pravda and Isvestia in the old days of communism in Russia. You got more out of what was not reported then what was actually written.
Sorry, are you a doctor? Have experience? Broken sternum and 12 broken ribs is deadly at any age, but at 60 it is very serious. I gave him best wishes and his family, but know the road will be a long arduous one.
No it wouldn’t. As I stated elsewhere, they’re trying to push everyone into going along like good little sheep and “always wear a belt”. For your own good. Or we’ll stop you and charge you. And 1 day, we’ll throw you in jail for this horrid breach of someone’s rights.
If he WAS wearing a belt, it wouldn’t be mentioned, because he was so grievously injured. It would not look good for belts.
As it was, he wasn’t, so we found out pretty quickly “he wasn’t wearing a belt!!!” Because that pushes the agenda of “it’s good for you”.
Okay, I’ll admit it, I thought botched hit as soon as the news hit the airways...
*tinfoil hat on*
I am not ‘forced’ to wear a seatbelt. I do so because I am smart enough to see and understand the huge benefit derived by doing so. I also like the comfort, yes comfort, from being partially restricted.
Also, I do not want to be a paraplegic which so often happens to people who don’t wear the belt. Tremendous burden on everyone. Corzine may have been lucky but I will bet big bucks that he would have suffered far less serious injuries had he been wearing.
The rebel in your handle explains a lot. Good luck to you and your survivors.
I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that perhaps, the car crash might have knocked some sense into his head! We will see.....
What a laugh! You can't make this type of PC absurdity up! A sitting governor intervening in this matter! Now I feel like singing, Instant Karma's gonna get you . . .
You don’t have laws making you a criminal for not wearing a belt? Lucky you.
You can talk all you want about how safe it is, but bottom line - NOONE SHOULD MAKE ANY LAWS ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T VIOLATE ANYONE’S RIGHTS.
Just because it’s wise, doesn’t mean it must have the force of law behind it.
From the description of his injuries I hope he was knocked unconscious immediately.
BOR screams at Geraldo that if that illegal alien with three previous driving infractions for DUI had been deported, those two girls would still be alive.
Therefore, if Imus had not let Bernie offer the alley-oop on the Rutgers basketball women, Corzine would still be breathing on his own and walking without a limp.
of course not and neither was the trooper. democrats love to pass motor vehicle and other laws that they don’t follow themselves; it’s only for the she-people, they know better and we must behave.
I'm beginning to wonder.
Don’t agree with the man at all politically, but he has my prayers and condolences.
Hope they find the creep who did it to him.
Was there really a "creep" in the first place, or was that their cover for Corzine telling the Patrol man to speed?
Prayers offered up for his recovery.
In New Jersey, only God will ever know.
Interesting timing...
Didn’t Corzine just endorse Hitlery last week?
Perhaps Obama was driving the red pick-up.
Obamacide?
I have seen plenty of threads on FR without a single mention of illegal aliens. You must pick the wrong ones. No need to be this nasty. Gosh, are you touchy! Calm down.
