Bloomberg Bolsters Gun Drive in Ohio and Kentucky
NY Times ^ | April 13, 2007 | DIANE CARDWELL

CINCINNATI, April 12 — Broadening his national effort to reduce the use of illegal guns, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York announced the addition of 14 mayors from Ohio and Kentucky to his coalition on Thursday and unveiled a campaign to pressure Congress to allow cities to share information about the source of guns used in crimes.

The campaign, to include Internet and television advertisements as well as a new Web site, is intended to pressure Congress into rescinding the so-called Tiahrt amendment, a measure attached to spending bills each year since 2003 that bans the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from releasing gun-trace data, except to police officials and prosecutors working on a particular crime.

The provision prevents the data from being used in civil lawsuits against gun dealers or manufacturers, but also keeps law enforcement officials, many say, from being able to see a full picture of gun trafficking in and around their communities.

“I am tired of my people having to face illegal guns,” said Scott M. Knight, who appears in the advertisement and is police chief in Chaska, Minn., a city of 24,000 just south of Minneapolis. “I am just tired of roadblocks, barriers, legislation being put up that gets in our way of doing our job.”

In making the announcement at the police academy here, Mr. Bloomberg was accompanied by Mayor Mark Mallory of Cincinnati and other mayors from the region who have recently joined Mr. Bloomberg’s national coalition on illegal guns, which law enforcement officials say are contributing to a rise in violent crime.

Mr. Bloomberg has labored over the last year to create momentum across the country to loosen the restrictions on trace data as part of his larger effort. At nearly every opportunity, Mr. Bloomberg emphasizes the...

Mayor Mark Mallory of Cincinnati, left, joined with Michael R. Bloomberg of New York in Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The group wants cities to be able to share information on guns used in crimes.

I'll be very surprised if the bonehead on the right doesn't try for the nomination of UNITY08.

Just wait to see what happens if he gets his gun grabbing mento, Rudy, seated in the whitehouse.

The second revolution would commence.

The Leftists win one election and it has emboldened them to the point that they are in full offensive mode on all fronts. They need to be vigorously resisted and defeated at the ballot box in ‘08 .

I have set personal goals to register more voters and get them to join the NRA as well.

Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight says he hasn’t heard people expressing anti-Mexican immigrant sentiments in Chaska. Knight has been proactive in reaching out to the immigrant communities in town. And he’s learning to speak Spanish. Listen to his comments by clicking the link:

I don’t have a player to hear the link. I would bet that the Chief panders to the illegals. Consider this was pulled from Minnesota Public Radio.

I don't believe Rudy can get the nomination. These popularity contests that we're seeing now for polls mean nothing. Very few folks understand all of the baggage that comes with Rudy.

That’s great ! Now it’s on to getting others to join and registering new like minded voters . We have to win .
The Leftists are really on the offensive lately and it’s quite unnerving to say the least .

In Bloomberg’s nanny state two of his primary concerns seem to be criminalizing the poor slob who lights up a cigarette and those who believe in the Second Amendment. Why doesn’t he focus on what’s illegal for a change? I suppose that’s expecting too much for NYC!

So the solution is to infringe on the rights of law abiding Americans? If the chief wants to better understand the root of the problem he needs to learn some recent history. Like his fellow liberals undermining and destroying the nuclear family. The havoc wreaked by welfare. The molly coddling of criminals. The revolving door in the criminal justice system. But instead, it's so much easier to deny law abiding Americans their Second Amendment rights. Time for me to go and puke for a while.

The egomaniac Bloomberg is a legend in his own mind, and can’t cope with the certain knowledge that outside of Manhattan he’s utterly irrelevant.

Sounds to me like they’re encouraging different jurisdictions to work together. Not hampering their efforts.

Legalize them all, and your people will never again face an illegal gun. Problem solved.
