Personally, I can understand the lower ratings. I’ve tuned in to him maybe twice and I couldn’t understand 2 words out of 5 because he was eating the microphone.

Another thing is that I’ve been hearing about Imus for 20 years, but this week is the first I’ve ever heard him called a “shock jock”. Where the heck did that come from?

I’ve never heard that before either.

He was on the air for awhile where I live. I tried listening a couple of times and didn’t get it either. He didn’t last long in my area.

He used to be a true "shock jock" along the lines of Howard Stern, but his show has gotten more serious -- especially in terms of the caliber of his guests -- in recent years.

His ratings have been down in recent years, but his show still commanded very high advertising rates. I read somewhere that from an economic/demographic standpoint he had the most valuable audience of any radio show in the country -- i.e., his listeners had the highest median income, highest net worth, highest education levels, etc. of any show on the air today.
