The Associated Press is reporting that United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is asking New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to allow New York Ciy Police Officers to participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions like Kosovo and Sudan.
The Secretary General needs to open his eyes and realize that New York Citys police officers especially those who walk the beat around First Avenue between 40th Street and 50th Street are already on an international peacekeeping mission. They are kept very busy with trivial tasks like writing out citations for cars with diplomatic plates that are illegally parked to very serious jobs like putting their lives on the line defending international diplomats visiting the United Nations. The people of New York have to endure traffic jams, diplomatic snobbery and an architectural eyesore on the East River in order to accommodate the United Nations. The American people give billions of dollars to the UN each year more than any other country. Isnt that enough, Mr. Secretary General? Keep your hands off our cops.
Tom Kilgannon, the President of Freedom Alliance and author of Diplomatic Divorce: Why America Should End Its Love Affair With the United Nations, responded:
Right. Like the police union would stand for it.
Ban Ki-moon has a third-world perspective on what “police” are.
Hey, who better to send to a police action?
Yup, the NYPD will respond just as soon as the UN diplomats pay the millions of dollars worth of parking tickets they owe.
