Iran controversy intensifies GOP outrage at Pelosi
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/12/7 | Carla Marinucci

During the fall congressional campaigns, Republicans raised the specter of what "San Francisco liberal" Nancy Pelosi would do as speaker should the Democrats win control of the House. Now, after three months in the role, Pelosi has become the marquee player in a nightly passion play -- as the Democrat Republicans most love to hate.

The latest episode in what has become an increasingly vociferous anti-Pelosi firestorm: her public discussion at the side of San Mateo Rep. Tom Lantos, Democratic chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, who suggested at a press conference Tuesday that a trip to Iran to talk with that nation's vilified president might be in the best interests of American diplomacy.

The White House weighed in Wednesday, calling the mere possibility of a visit to Iran "unproductive and unhelpful.''

But Brendan Daly, Pelosi's spokesman, said that Pelosi "has no intention of going to Iran.''

"As she said (Tuesday), the president of Iran's statements about the destruction of Israel and denial of the Holocaust are repulsive and outside the circle of civilized human behavior," Daly said in a statement. "She has great respect for Mr. Lantos, who is the only Holocaust survivor in the Congress and a staunch supporter of Israel and who would like to go to begin a dialogue there, as the bipartisan Iraq Study Group recommended."

The discussion, just a week after Pelosi set off a political controversy with her trip to Syria during the congressional recess, set the critics at it again. They raged about everything from her choice of suits to her choice of words, calling her everything from a traitor to a presidential wanna-be to just plain crazy.

The onslaught could be having some effect.

Be watching Pakistan.

That is my personal, private nightmare.

It has been stated:

1) A nuke going off in an American city would most likely have as its origin Waristan.

2) India: Pakistian is still the mostly likely scenario for a nuclear exchange.

The Northwest Territories of Pakistan are, in my estimation, the least redeemed culture on earth (North Korea was the center of Christianity on that peninsula prior to the division of Korea, Papua New Guinea has a thriving Christian Community, Saudi Arabia has the beginings of an Underground Christian Church), etc.

It may be cruel to say this, but the world wouldn't miss a thing if that area of the world went BOOM.

Pakistan strikes me as having about the angriest group of Muslims assembled in one place.

That was absolutely amazing. Thank you for posting.

Nancy Pelosi is not stupid, she is not naive, and she is not innocently seeking to forge diplomatic ties with Middle Eastern nations.

She and the Democrat party have made a deliberate decision to destroy the Bush presidency and the Bush administration and they have made a deliberate decision to throw in with America's enemies to accomplish that goal.

They will do and say anything, no matter the consequence, to, if not remove Bush from office, completely and utterly drive this nation into the ground to exact revenge on this man whom they despise so vehemently.

We are beyond the point at which these people should have been arrested and charged with treason. And I fault the Bush administration for not including the Democrat party as wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Islamic facsists who use murder to further their aims of running the world, and for giving them the treatment they so richly deserve as congressional sponsors of terrorism.

The way to bring down those drunk on power is usually to play to their ego and let them hang themselves. It ought to be easy to draw her into a no-win situation.

I hope so. It is just anguishing to stand by and wait for the axe to fall on her and the rest of the weasels. But, I guess we will always have weasels with us - they are like weeds - you pull one up and another starts to sprout! I guess I have to learn patience.
