Iran controversy intensifies GOP outrage at Pelosi
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/12/7 | Carla Marinucci

Posted on 04/12/2007 7:38:37 AM PDT by SmithL

During the fall congressional campaigns, Republicans raised the specter of what "San Francisco liberal" Nancy Pelosi would do as speaker should the Democrats win control of the House. Now, after three months in the role, Pelosi has become the marquee player in a nightly passion play -- as the Democrat Republicans most love to hate.

The latest episode in what has become an increasingly vociferous anti-Pelosi firestorm: her public discussion at the side of San Mateo Rep. Tom Lantos, Democratic chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, who suggested at a press conference Tuesday that a trip to Iran to talk with that nation's vilified president might be in the best interests of American diplomacy.

The White House weighed in Wednesday, calling the mere possibility of a visit to Iran "unproductive and unhelpful.''

But Brendan Daly, Pelosi's spokesman, said that Pelosi "has no intention of going to Iran.''

"As she said (Tuesday), the president of Iran's statements about the destruction of Israel and denial of the Holocaust are repulsive and outside the circle of civilized human behavior," Daly said in a statement. "She has great respect for Mr. Lantos, who is the only Holocaust survivor in the Congress and a staunch supporter of Israel and who would like to go to begin a dialogue there, as the bipartisan Iraq Study Group recommended."

The discussion, just a week after Pelosi set off a political controversy with her trip to Syria during the congressional recess, set the critics at it again. They raged about everything from her choice of suits to her choice of words, calling her everything from a traitor to a presidential wanna-be to just plain crazy.

The onslaught could be having some effect.

I saw Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi on Fox News in side-by-side interviews and was struck by the fact that Dingy’s eyes are so squinty you can’t see them and Bela’s eyes are so wide open, they won’t shut! Dingy couldn’t put two intelligible words together, and Bela couldn’t stop spewing her invectives. What a pair!

Going to Syria and talking to the murderer of the Lebanese representatives can only be describe as such.
Conducting diplomacy with the regime in Damascus while they kill Lebanese democrats is not only irresponsible, it is shameful.

Prosecute her under the Logan Act.

It will both occupy all the free time she seems to have and educate the otherwise ignorant public about the separation of powers, and the consequences of overstepping those boundaries.

Was Darrell Issa also criticized in these commercials? I'd hazard a guess not.

Until he and his brethren are equally criticized - here, in the press, and in the WH press room - it is clear to anyone with a brain that the firestorm over her trip is mere politics without substance.

Speaking of Harry Reid, I heard him say that President Bush is as isolated in the White House as was Richard Nixon. Funny, I haven’t seen any articles about his comment. Gee, I wonder why that is?

Issa you say? He shouldn’t have went there either. Nor should anyone else until the President SENDS THEM. That good enough? Ann Coulter said the same thing.....that good enough?

I agree! Prosecute Pelosi and ALL the others either DEM or REP who went to meet with our enemies without permission and approval from President Bush and State Department.

Pelosi doesn’t have the brains God gave a goat.
her one and only claim to fame is that she is the “Leader of the Lemmings”.

It will be good enough when that is the meme, rather than the majority of the American public hearing from their WH about Pelosi ONLY, and hearing from the media about Pelosi ONLY.

If the WH - and most FReepers - were really concerned about members of Congress visiting foreign leaders, we wouldn't only hear from them about those from the other party.

Its like talking to Hitler in the 1930s... the Demorats really believe they can make a civilized man out of a monster - by talking to him! They tried doing that with Hitler in the 30s and Britain was almost destroyed. If the Democrats go down that path, it will result in the destruction of America. There are those so blind they will not see what is in front of them

"We have made it clear to high-ranking officials, whether they be Republicans or Democrats, that going to Syria sends mixed signals," Bush said to reporters at the White House. (Tue Apr 3, 2007 3:07PM EDT)

The Lemur is much prettier, and their large eyes help them see in the dim light of the forrest canopy. Pelosi has no such excuse, other than that she is a dim light.

Very insightful post on your blog.

It amazes me how dumb our elected leaders are.

But, in her case, our entitled political class was at work, ensuring another generation of "professionals" was at the public trough.

We need a Constitutional Amendment to prevent spouses and progeny from running for national office.

It smacks too much of a "ruling class" and we have the example of European history to forewarn us.

Anyway, I check on your blog frequently for your insights from Asia and other topics. Intriguing stuff.

I heard ol’ Squint Reid make the Nixon-Bush comparison. The old f@rt stood there stuttering and stammering, trying to put two words together, then out came this statement. What a fool. It would be laughable if this guy wasn’t in such a powerful position.

Right but it will take the Alternative Media and its proponents like us to rail and rant against these rotten anti-American hypocrites. With Iran supposedly preparting for war, why not send her now to Tehran and prayerfully, she will be held for ransom???

I say that I've yet to hear them say the name of any (R) congressman who went to Syria in anything like they way they called Pelosi out in the WH briefings.

I've yet to hear them point out that Issa EXPLICITLY sent a mixed signal, by openly criticizing the Administration policy towards Syria - something Pelosi did not do.

So pretending that they are dealing with this even-handedly, or that the media is doing so, is just fantasy.
