Any discussion of race in America invariably leads to frustration and a profound feeling of futility. It's virtually impossible to have a meaningful dialogue on the subject.
While not exactly defending Don Imus' unprovoked, racist and sexist insults directed at the women's basketball team at Rutgers, some of my white friends have attempted to rationalize the comments by redirecting the conversation in the most predictable of diversions: changing the topic.
Instead of dealing specifically with Imus, they'll cite race-based insults hurled by black comedians and athletes. In other words, if Chris Rock makes fun of whites (or blacks) in a stand-up comedy routine, or if Charles Barkley says something silly on TNT, somehow this means Imus gets a free pass.
Hardly. Wrong is wrong, but context is important. When a comedian speaks in humorous generalities about the differences between races, that's considerably different from Imus spontaneously slurring a specific group of people such as the Rutgers players, who have names, faces, identities and families.
The anger directed at Imus is on target. Sure, the piling on from discredited figures such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson is absurd, but that doesn't excuse what Imus did....[snip]
[snip].....Early on in this process, the New Black Panthers, a black hate group from Atlanta, traveled to Durham and made threats against the three lacrosse players. And the woman who filed the false charges against the Duke players is black. So how come Sharpton and Jackson aren't in North Carolina, speaking out against blacks who harmed the reputation of three white athletes? Must be a selective conscience. And the double standards are detestable........."

Because the left (race hustlers, media, dems) want to silence one race in favor of another.
“This thing was a fraud from the start. That was my FIRST reaction to this ... check my replies when this fraud first out in the news.”
Me too. I also said who will restore these boys reputations...hopefully the families go after all those responsible.
And don’t forget Mike Barnicle, the plagiarist and fabricator of stories for the Boston Glob. Before he was terminated from the Glob, that is.
How about we have a pity party for Nifong!
What a louse. I was glad to hear one of the parents say that Nifong picked on the wrong families.
Quite a lesson learned....I hope.....at Duke...and other universities that love wealthy families to send them their children, then despise those children because they are well off.
Sorry, I just filled my keyboard with coffee. I think that is the naive comment of the day! LOL
The crack ho originally cried rape to keep from being tossed in the looney bin for being out on the street at night with no real idea of who or where she was, and Fong was basically a year or two from retiring with pension and was close to losing an election to a woman he'd previously fired and who would have fired him in a heartbeat.
If it wasn't so impossibly hard to feel sorry for psychopaths I could almost feel sorry for Fong, the situation should not be possible.
The fact is they are yellow as Saffron.
They havent got the balls to bring this black woman up on charges because of her race.
Its just that simple. Cowards.
Sorry — I owe you a keyboard.
But it doesn’t sound as tho anyone here can peg him politically. When I listened to him -— years ago -— he seemed conservative to me. He did poke at everyone (not in the room) and did kowtow to all he interviewed — but so did Bob Grant. (big conservative)
I don’t like the guy, but what IS the reason that the media is plowing so strong?
Nifong is white and an easy target. She is black and even if charges were brought, I doubt any jury in the Carolina’s with so much as one black on it would convict her.
Nevertheless she should be charged.
The poor brainless idiot is clueless. His brains left him by the bottle, by the nose and by the needle. The media is on the on the attack because he is easy; a has been that doesn't matter. His politics are vacant with no substance yet he thinks he is sooo....cool. Worst thing about him is he feigns being a westerner. We call drugstore cowboy folks like him:
All Hat No Cattle!
Hey Bing,
Imus is a sad individual. He was actually raised on a huge ranch is Northern Arizona, and he still owns cattle IIRC.
You are correct that he left behind the cowboy way when he took up the bottle and the needle. Those things zap us of our inhibitions, values, and ethics.
You either stand for something or you fall for anything. In the case of Imus, he stands for nothing and has fallen for the biggest lie....his own greatness.
He's essentially an a-hole.

Also known as Mormon Royalty? Sat behind a general authority last Saturday at the JS Bldg at my niece's wedding luncheon. His cell phone rang...I said in my most quiet voice..."God calling" My ribs still are hurting from the elbow of a blue eyed blond sitting next to me.
Imus can stay in Northern Arizona or New Mexico playing cowboy if he wants. Just keep him away from our special place.
You are the only one so far to get the meaning of my tagline. Congratulations!
Speaking of our special place.....
...There’s a summer place
Where it may rain or storm
Yet I’m safe and warm
For within that summer place
Your [words] reach out to me
And my heart is free from all care
For it knows
There are no gloomy skies
When seen through the eyes
Of those who are blessed with [conservatism]
And the sweet secret of
A summer place
Is that it’s anywhere
Where two people share
All their hopes
All their dreams.....
....and conservatism. : D
Same players and same lies with a different twist. These boys are labeled WEALTHY so I throw in economic class.
Percy Faith 1959? You’re too young to remember that one. Sung by the Lettermen in 1965.
Yep, you hit the nail on the head!
Yep I remember the Lettermen version. Weren’t they Mormon? They sure looked like it. LOL
