The price of meat is set to rise in America as the nation’s helter-skelter dash to convert corn into road fuel begins to take its toll on the supply of food.

The US Department of Agriculture has said that meat supply will fall this year because of the high cost of feed. Output of beef, pork and chicken is expected to decline by one billion pounds as farmers react to the soaring cost of feeding their livestock.

The crazy pursuit to reduce "greenhouse gases" will make it harder and harder for the poor around the world to feed their families.

Good thing I like venison & wild turkeys.

Sure is cheaper to “raise” them than it is beef & chickens...and if the coons, bobcats, fox, coyotes, or cougars get any of them, at least it doesn’t cost me anything.

Roasted Raccoon and Yams

~ 1 raccoon, dressed
~ 2 red pepper pods
~ 1 tsp salt
~ 1/4 tsp pepper
~ 1/8 tsp sage
~ 2 tbsp lemon juice
~ 4 large yams, peeled and quartered
~ 1/4 cup brown sugar
~ 1/2 cinnamon
~ 1/8 tsp ginger

Place the raccoon in a large pot with the peppers. Cover with water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.

Remove raccoon from the pot and place on a rack in a roasting pan.

Pour the lemon juice on the raccoon. Sprinkle on the salt, pepper and sage.

Place the yams in the pan around the raccoon. Add 1 cup of water.

Mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon and ginger.
Sprinkle on the yams.

Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours or until the meat is crisp and brown.

Transfer to a serving platter.

Serve and Enjoy!

This biofuel business will not satisfy the watermelons, but I bet the PETA lunatics are happy.

And this is not a free market initiative folks. This is a big-government boondoggle resting on the handing out of (yet more!) government subsidies. You may not be getting much pork from now on, but that doesn't mean Congress isn't knee deep in it. Your tax dollars are being used to artificially decrease the purchase price of certain crops by ethanol producers and provide them with other forms of welfare (while growers likewise receive 'transitional' subsidies), artificially making the sale for livestock and foodstuffs less competitive. That's right - you pay higher taxes (or enjoy redder deficits) AND you gain the "benefit" of paying more for food, all so some green-d*cked econazis don't have to watch ANWR or more of the coast get drilled, or suffer from bouts of NIMYism because a nuclear power plant went up 200 miles from them.

This is a complete farce. Demand nuclear energy. Demand ANWR drilling. Demand coastal exploration. This federal eco-welfare program is disgraceful in its abject stupidity.

Haven’t you heard...Soylent Green...it’s what the liberals will be pushing in the near future to deal with the food shortages they’re trying to create.

Demand the planting of sugar beets... There is LOTS of undeveloped land as i drive across these United States, and their development as energy farms growing sugar beets (lots more energy production than corn) is a veritable CORNucopia of ethanol production...

Do the research..

The Libs' "Law of Unintended Consequences" strikes again. Not that the MSM will point out that out.

Thanks for the 'coon recipe, digger. Just knew they had to be good for something...

That recipe sounds great...

...but the last time I dressed a coon, it was full of heartworms. That kind of spoiled things for me. :(
