RUDY RIPS HESTON'S TAKE ON GUNS, CRIME (From 1997; Says Gun Control is the Reason for Less Crime)
NY Daily News via LexisNexis ^ | 05/19/1997 | Bob Liff

Mayor Giuliani laid down the law to Moses yesterday, telling Charlton Heston that the city's gun laws did help reduce the homicide rate.

Heston, who delivered the law in "The Ten Commandments," said the city's plunging homicide rate shows that it is good police work not gun control laws that reduces crime.

"In New York City, until very recently, when Mayor Giuliani took office, it shared with Washington the worst murder record in America," Heston, who was recently elected a vice president of the National Rifle Association, said yesterday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"Both cities have absolutely Draconian prohibitions oh, never mind waiting periods," Heston said. "You cannot own a firearm in New York or Washington.

"Mayor Giuliani saw the light, though, and he changed his tack and started prosecuting criminals and throwing them in prison for long periods, and since he started doing that, the crime rate in New York has gone down," he said.

But Giuliani, who thanked Heston for the kind words about his crimefighting efforts, said the actor was wrong about why the city crime rate went down.

"It says to me that gun control works," Giuliani said of the drop in homicides. "New York City has the toughest gun control laws in America and it's reduced shootings by guns by more than 60%. If the rest of America could do what we're doing, then we'd probably get another 30% or 40% reduction."

All gun control laws are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. When one gun control “law” is allowed to stand, it relegates an inalienable right to just a privilege granted by government.

It is oppression at its highest level. It goes against everything that is American ... and supports everything that is tyrannical.

you think carefully as well, Crime went down, weather you like it or not , it happened. And criminals still don’t obey the law. They broke them and went to jail. Use a gun -go to jail

Yes, stiffer penalties for wepons used in a crime are a good idea. No problem there.

-- Crime went down, weather you like it or not , it happened.

Cause and effect can be difficult to sort out.

Answer this: Did crime rates go down generally during the same period? Did you even check? (Use those Internet pipe things to look around at www.fbi.gov)

Unbelievable.

A 'gun grabber' like JulieAnnie CONVENIENTLY forgets that the US experienced the biggest economic boom EVER in the 90's. Historically, when the economy improves (and unemployment goes down),,,,a reduction in crime usually occurs.

To ignore the effect of the booming economy is VERY disingenuous on JulieAnnie's part.

"He believes in a law that keeps hand gun’s out of the hands of street thugs, I have no problem with Him."

The problem is that his agenda is to keep ALL guns out of the hands of ALL citizens, thugs and law abiding citizens. Don't let yourself be fooled by the Rudy Rooters.

Bravo! The the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment is absolute and the plain and unequivical language of the Amendment makes no exception of any kind for any person, including convicted violent felons, the mentally ill, terrorists, pre-school children, wife beaters, stalkers, illegal aliens, or those seeking the violent overthrow of our Country. If you are a "people," then you have an unrestricted Constitutional right to possess and carry a firearm of kind, including surface-to-air missiles, grenade launchers, M-1 Tanks, and if you can afford one, a C-130 Hercules Gunship. Equally important, nothing in the Second Amendment restricts the right of the people to carry their firearm anyplace they want, including the halls of Congress, the White House, the Supreme Court of the United States, criminal court buildings, divorce and family courts, presidential and other political speeches, or crowded, unairconditioned subways, during rush hour on the hottest days of the year.

Never vote for a politician that does not trust his own constituents with 2nd amendment rights! Think about it. What makes this same politician think he is trust worthy in the eyes of the voting public? Blind trust goes both ways.

Once again, trying to counter someones point in an argument with utter nonsense and extreme exaggeration.

Nice try. You only show your ignorance of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. People like you will always see ways to curb peoples rights to suit your particular myopic view of the world.

Absurdity is find for humor, not for supporting ones views ... it only makes one look stupid.

At this point, it appears the more the front runners say the better Hunter looks.
