so we pay, we volunteer, we help our kids pretty generously IMO....paying college costs and a wedding and getting first cars, etc....

It's not my fault your husband sank the nest egg into the company he worked for instead of diversifying it. Why should I have to pay for it? I've been laid off 4 times. It's a different world now.....

you better believe we will take whatever SS benefit there is....we deserve it.

first of all...you won't be paying anything to us....we will get a pittance from the govt and that's it...more likely we'll be supporting our grown children and their grand children, which I consider a right and a responsibility....

as far as that not "diversifying" thingy....it wasn't that...the company was taken over several years ago, its assets sold and then a "bankruptcy" appeared...which took away all pensions and medical retirement....but don't you worry your sweet little head over that....

and yes, we do deserve it....we've both been paying in for a combined 75 yrs...don't you think we should get SOME of our money back?

Here's *my* problem...

As things stand now my husband and I have to pay for the raising of our children (no problem), pay for *our* retirement (fine) and pay for *your* retirement.

Now how in the hell are we supposed to do this?

Whether or not this is right is beside the point. I'd like to know *how* one man is supposed to support all these people and still take care of himself.

You're not the first Boomer who I've heard say "we deserve it". But that careless attitude is what breeds hostility from those of us who actually have to pay for it.
